4. Could be -- I thought it might mean because people feel he's so silent on some
issues, but that didn't seem like the type of sign I've been seeing at the rally. I like your explanation better! :hi:

18. So was it a "real" anti-Obama sign, or is the subtlety lost on me?
(going to look up the Great Dictator later -- thanks!)

33. That's what I'm thinking.
Chaplain also had a toothbrush moustache, before Hitler made them unpopular.

3. My wife absolutely loves that movie espeically the speech Chaplin gives at the end.
It would be a fitting speech for this rally if they could have gotten permission.

9. and, like communist/nazi that is Obama, Chaplin was not allowed to return
to the US when he left, just as Obama should not be allowed to return the next time he steals AF1 to journey abroad, probably to Red China, where he belongs

31. Maybe you are seeing what you want to see, rather than the simplest explanation.
Which is that the sign is parody of "Obama is Worst Than Hitler" teabag signs.

It is pretty obtuse though. Maybe they should have put up pictures.

Have a great night! :patriot:

11. It's a brilliant take on
the Hitler Teabagger crap!

And that comparing anyone to Obama to smear him shows someone just as sick & fed up as so many of us when it comes to the BS of politicking when what we need more of is transparency in our government. Isn't that the base concept and experiment in Democracy upon which our governed nation was born?

Am in awe of and made more hopeful again that there are so many at the Sanity Rally. Surely most of them vote.

30. A British comedian is trying to reclaim the toothbrush moustache for comedy
Of the many shows comedian Richard Herring has produced over the past two decades, Hitler Moustache has to be one of the most fascinating. He delivers a set that wonders how the ‘toothbrush moustache’ has come to symbolise Nazi infamy (when worn by Hitler), when it used to be a symbol of comedy (when worn by Charlie Chaplin).

What results is a show that deliberately follows in the spirit of Chaplin’s controversial talkie, The Great Dictator, by reclaiming the moustache for comedy and using it to satirise prejudice on a broader scale. Jokes about race, religion and fascism are inevitably present, and there’s a galvanising call to arms to the people of Cardiff (this was filmed at the city’s Chapter Arts Centre earlier this year) against the kind of voter apathy that led to the BNP’s success at the 2009 European elections.

27. Yeah that's what I think too............
They're referring to all those Obama=Hitler signs by implying that the Hitler pix were NOT Hitler, but Charlie Chaplin. Ergo, Obama is equal to/worse than Chaplin.

However, I have always thought that Stewert resembles Chaplin quite a bit.
