Whoa! Al Gore during a long standing ovation when asked to run again...
"Al Gore during long standing ovation in Santa Barbara when director James Cameron asked him to please run again."

I don't know the date. I just found the picture on Amazon.com after I went to AlGore.com and clicked on "Assault on Reason"

I will respect his decision whatever he decides to do next. Nonetheless a few long standing ovations and crowds of people at his book-signing events with "Gore 2008" buttons and T-shirts couldn't hurt...

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Report from LA book signing -- Gore got the message!

2. I'm with you. I don't think he has made any decision. I think he is resisting -
and that resisting is exactly what he should be doing right now. Is there a real possibility that he could run an "un-campaign" - force the media to cover the issues and not weight, earthtone suits, haircuts...

19. Same here. But also because I know he has already won, and that our constitution
was in crisis mode before B* was sworn in. SCOTUS will be remembered historically for their whoredom. Little did we all know (Gore included, and certainly Kerry) how very much worse it would and could become. I'm afraid. I was in 2000. "A Republic if WE can Keep it."

3. Do you think he would win?
Of course most on DU would support him and so would I.
But i'd be worried about how the rest of the country would vote.

I don't think Gore could stand to lose another election
(technically, he didn't lose the first, but you know what I mean)

It is becoming inescapable. I hope he makes the correct decision for Al Gore, as much as I admire him.

That picture tears me up, in truth. There is a man with much on his shoulders. It isn't easy when destiny calls and won't hang up.

6. That man took alot of heat in 2000, far too much from his own party
to step aside, not only the media but many of those that voted for him argued with me at the time that he should just step aside and let bush take over, I was so horrified at hearing this, the media and even those close to him made his life a living hell, if he does run again, he would be in my eyes more than a hero because what one man can take so much and yet keep going without any real support, he has only gotten that support from the people so loudly only in the last couple of years...

It made me sick he didn't get it all along.

have a bad habit of putting people on a pedestal and just a quickly not only knocking them right off but stomping them once they fall, a good thing this is just a message board so that cooler heads are more likely to happen after a time and obviously some need time to cool down when they feel dejected by someone.

12. "I’m not issuing a Shermanesque statement because. . .I’m not ruling it out for all time."
When I asked Gore why he hasn’t dismissed all the speculation by issuing a Shermanesque refusal to stand, as he did in 2002, Gore said, “Having spent 30 years as part of the political dialogue, I don’t know why a 600-day campaign is taken as a given, and why people who aren’t in it 600 days out for the convenience of whatever brokers want to close the door and narrow the field and say, ‘This is it, now let’s place your bets’ — If they want to do that, fine. I don’t have to play that game.” This sounded a lot like “I can get in late.” (Indeed, the buzz among the former aides is that Gore could jump in at the end of 2007 should the current contenders show significant weakness.) A few moments later, he said: “I’m not issuing a Shermanesque statement because that’s not where I am. I’m not ruling it out for all time. Although I cannot presently foresee any circumstances, such circumstances could emerge.”

“And such circumstances could emerge in 2008?”

“It’s extremely unlikely, but not impossible.”

14. What a long distance from 2000 and being the "presumed"
nominee and dealing with the rightwingtalkingheadmedia drone of "Clinton Fatigue" - to people - everywhere he goes... begging him to run. I hope that he realizes the big difference in the atmosphere per a potential run. There are several "superstars" who are, frankly, doing quite well per fundraising and increasing their political "Q" scores (how much the public recognizes them) and yet - it sounds like everywhere he goes there are *many* begging him to run. Oh how I hope he realizes that this is a *very* different atmosphere than 8 years ago - and that while he (and any dem front runner and later nominee will be attacked) that so many who tepidly supported in 2000 (voted and talked up, but didn't take real active action) would mobilize in a minue for the guy who showed up at the Florida state Dem convention in 2002 (much more straight talk) and who hasn't gone tepid in his speech/stands ever since.

I am thinking of an old song by the band Chicago: America Needs You, Harry Truman... Icing on the cake would be if a contemporary band remade that song calling for Al Gore... Bet the song would be a hit - and bet that he would "hear" the message.

Guess one would have to ask to find out. Would probably have to get an okay from whoever wrote the first song. It was a hit in the seventies -bet a remake with Al Gore in it would not just be a hit - but a smash hit!

is there anything WE can do to get him to run. idon't think telling him is enough. i think he needs to know that he will get support and backup when he is attacked if he were to get in the race.

my opinion of Gore is that he likes governing, policy making etc. but he HATES the ugliness of politics. most people do but he is turned off by it more than most other politicians.

41. I totally agree with your view ...
I see him as an honorable man who loves governance and especially helping people -- but the smarminess of politicking saddens him. There are some folks who run for public office who enjoy having power over people ... and others who love only the adulation. (Bush, for example, enjoys running around wringing money out of powerful cronies, because he sees it as yet another way of scoring points.) Gore seems to be the sort who is deeply uncomfortable with greed and egotism ... he probably saw lots of that when he was looking at his fellow legislators during his long years of service. He did an astonishing impression of Trent Lott when he was on SNL -- I think it was his way of trying to warn us about how dangerous that type of politicking can be.

50. what is al doing? i think
that he is trying to see if he is able to control the media spin. if he can get out there, and talk about the things that are in this book, and control the spin, then he can win. if he goes out there, and no matter what he does, he ends up in front of a "race for '08" backdrop, and gets run in circles instead saying what he wants to say, he will not bother.
which, i think, is amazingly smart.
