1. Once you refer to him as President, repeated references can be
"Mr. Obama".... At least that is the protocol I've always seen. Bush*, of course demanded that he be referred to as "The President" or "This President" all the time and the compliant MSM readily bent to his wishes.

16. But
Saying 'Mister/Mr.' verbally is different than typing out the word as 'Mister' instead of 'Mr.'
FoxNews typed 'Mister Obama' on their screen crawl instead of the commonly used version 'Mr. Obama'
FoxNews is scum as usual ;)

3. It's not OK. It's never OK, no matter who does it. He's Mr. President,
The President, or President Obama.

9. Um, no...
As marmar says below, the New York Times guideline is the first time he's referred to as President Obama, and subsequently as Mr. Obama. No president has ever complained about that. That's what all the real networks do as well.

11. But Krugman never calls him President Obama
so he is violating the NYT guideline.

14. It's not about the M$M
it's about the double standard here on DU.

15. You're missing the point.
Paul Krugman typed out * Mr. Obama *
BUT FoxNews spelled out *Mister Obama * on their bottom of the screen crawler.

There is nothing wrong with * Mr. *
but typing out * Mister * is a different story.

22. I'm not getting your point, either .....
Why is spelling out the word Mister less honorific than the abbreviation?

21. The think the honorific "Mister" has always been used with presidents
I think it was a deliberate decision NOT to call the president "Your Honor" or "Your Excellency" or any other exceptional title.

The United States of America has has ALWAYS tried to distinguish itself from monarchies and phony despots who endow their leaders with "supernatural" powers.

I think "Mr." is just fine.
