Poll question: Will you join the boycott of 5 restaurant chains to increase the minimum wage?
Edited on Thu May-24-07 03:34 PM by liberaldemocrat7
Surely you can click a link to see a petition to increase the minimum wage.

Do you want the minimum wage increased? Go here http://wage.dmocrats.org and then make some phone calls.

You have to call them to make them aware of your demand to increase the minimum wage.

Then go to Arby's and get some great food and support the Democratic Party. Arby's gives money to the Democrats exclusively last I checked opensecrets.org

Then also go to http://endthewar.dmocrats.org and make some phone calls.

and http://medicare.dmocrats.org and make some phone calls.

1. I already don't go to any of those restaurants....
but I will make sure to not let them know that when I threaten to withdraw my daily eating there.

4. Yes, I have already heard that and read that from people.
You have to call them to make them aware of your demand to increase the minimum wage.

2. I sorta already do.
But it's more because they suck than anything political. I suppose I'll have no problem with this boycott!

17. My boss drags us to Olive Garden once a month.
But I'll suggest somewhere local next time. I don't think she really cares. . .

19. No sweat.
The only one of the five I occasionally frequent is Wendy's, and as long as there is a Burger King, I can live without Wendy's. Since Dave Thomas died, the food hasn't been all that great anyway.

I don't go to those anyway - except for Red Lobster ONCE a
year (Mom always wants to go there for her birthday - don't ask).

My hubby does, however, go to Wendy's. I'll work on him.

6. I already am, just didn't know it.
I hardly ever eat at franchises anymore. I always prefer a local restaurant if the prices are reasonable.

7. Well, I voted "NO" because I own a restaurant..
Edited on Thu May-24-07 03:34 PM by Ghost in the Machine
however, ALL of my employees are paid well above minimum wage and well above the prevailing wages for our area. Sure, I haven't seen a profit, or even a "break even" yet on the over sixty THOUSAND dollars in cold hard cash out of MY pocket that I've invested into it since opening 7 months ago, but I guess that's just how business goes. I could pay a lot less, however it would mean that I'd have to expect less from my employees.

Good employers pay employees well... corporatewhore companies are the ones who pay minimum wage and fight to keep it down.

Why would you want to hurt a small business man who's probably struggling just to make a buck and stay afloat? If you're gonna boycott, at least keep it to corporate businesses and not franchises and sole proprietors.

On edit: Ok, I see that it's been changed to "5 chains" now. Never mind

your restaurant if you would, and I'll make sure to eat there if I am ever in your town. That's a promise.

31. Can I cook?! I do about 90% of the cooking in my house!
Edited on Fri May-25-07 04:02 PM by KansDem
I make a mean vegetarian biscuit and gravy dish that my whole family gobbles up (both the vegetarians and the carnivores). I'm also known for a tofu sesame-ginger dish with celery and bok choy over jasmine rice that my family loves.

But perhaps I'm best know for my veggie chicken fajitas...mmm-mmm, my family eats good! :9

The only trouble are the dirty dishes...x(

8. Doing a little push-polling with that loaded question, are you? Your intentions may be good,
Edited on Thu May-24-07 03:34 PM by Redstone
but your technique is lousy; saying that anyone who doesn't think your boycott will work is "letting the republicans rip off poor people" is a pretty poor way to get people to be on your side.

Oh, and also: we're supposed to call these people and DEMAND that they do something? THAT technique will get them to be sympathetic and willing to hear us out and take action, won't it?

16. Break the Chains!
you're supporting industrial ag and biotech giants like monsanto when you eat at those chains and fast food joints which means you're supporting all their unsustainable and highly polluting practices. not to mention the animal cruelty involved and the public health aspects of antibioics and hormones in the food chain and giant lagoons full of shit that can't be recycled as fertilizer because of all the chemicals in it.
