really dumb things that can be easily misinterpreted.

Like when he made the dumb comment about not being able to go into 7/11's or Dunkin Donuts without running into Indian Americans.

“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” he said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

But—and the “but” was clearly inevitable—he doubts whether American voters are going to elect “a one-term, a guy who has served for four years in the Senate,” and added: “I don’t recall hearing a word from Barack about a plan or a tactic.”

(Then he went on to throw insults at Clinton and Edwards.)

52. What did Josh Marshall say?
And when will upper-middle class blog owners realize that they are both richer and whiter than even their target audience... much less the six working class families that got kicked out of their brownstone so they could close on the contract? Ah, but those working class folks were not "bright" or "articulate". They probably weren't white, either.

Progressives should never think they don't have a problem on race.

Regarding Barack Obama:

“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” he said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

But—and the “but” was clearly inevitable—he doubts whether American voters are going to elect “a one-term, a guy who has served for four years in the Senate,” and added: “I don’t recall hearing a word from Barack about a plan or a tactic.”

Regarding John Edwards:

“I don’t think John Edwards knows what the heck he is talking about,” Mr. Biden said, when asked about Mr. Edwards’ advocacy of the immediate withdrawal of about 40,000 American troops from Iraq.

“John Edwards wants you and all the Democrats to think, ‘I want us out of there,’ but when you come back and you say, ‘O.K., John’”—here, the word “John” became an accusatory, mocking refrain—“‘what about the chaos that will ensue? Do we have any interest, John, left in the region?’ Well, John will have to answer yes or no. If he says yes, what are they? What are those interests, John? How do you protect those interests, John, if you are completely withdrawn? Are you withdrawn from the region, John? Are you withdrawn from Iraq, John? In what period? So all this stuff is like so much Fluffernutter out there. So for me, what I think you have to do is have a strategic notion. And they may have it—they are just smart enough not to enunciate it.”

The targets of Mr. Biden’s criticism, whether out of shock, indifference or a calculation that it would be unwise in this case to meet fire with fire, declined to respond in kind.

17. I remember Biden on his last Daily Show interview.
He told this dumb story about how he was talking about his church going grandmother, and the person he was talking to described it as "quaint." He then became irate and badgered this person.

It was a weird story to tell. It made me wonder if Biden wasn't right in the head.

But my point is, Joe Biden understands what it means to be patronized. Apparently he can dish it out better than he can take it.

In all honesty, I think Joe Biden is unfit to represent the people of Delaware.

49. I haven't liked him since the Clarence Thomas hearings
Maybe I'm being unfair about it, but I remember that when Biden chaired the hearing on Clarence Thomas to confirm him for the Supreme Court, he pretty much left Anita Hill out to dry. He didn't investigate into Clarence Thomas' porno movie-viewing habits, claiming it was irrelevant. But it's Thomas' obssession with sexual fantasies about the workers beneath him that was at the heart of the hearings. It was Clarence Thomas' character for truthfulness at issue, as he flatly denied what Anita Hill said abot his treatment of employees beneath him. And Biden lied, I think, when he said that he wanted to call Angela Wright to testify. Angela Wright was another black woman working under Clarence Thomas who had been subjected to the same kind of sexual harrassment by the Supreme Court nominee. She would have backed up Anita Hill's entire testimony. It would have sunk Clarence Thomas for good. But Biden says it was Wright who didn't want to appear. Actually, Angela Wright says she was ready to testify but it was Biden's office that withdrew the subpoena at the last minute. At least, that's how I recall the events. Since that time, I haven't been able to watch Joseph Biden without thinking about Clarence Thomas and the fact that Biden wrapped up the hearings all of sudden, as though it was part of some back room deal, just as I thought things were heating up. Biden has been a good critic of Bush over the last few years, but let's just say I don't completely trust the guy.

Rice Takes Center Stage at Confirmation Hearing
Democrats Press Nominee on Iraq
By ANNE GEARAN,
http://aolsvc.news.aol.com/news/article.adp?id=20050116...
.......Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Richard Lugar opened
Tuesday's hearing with warm words about Rice, who has served a mostly
behind-the-scenes role at the White House for the past four years. He
called her "highly qualified'' for the post.
Biden also praised Rice, but noted that "relations with many of our
oldest friends are quite frankly scraping the bottom right now.''
However, Biden also had blunt advice for European critics: "I have one
simple message: Get over it. Get over it. President Bush is our
president for the next four years. So get over it and start to act in
your interest, Europe.''

69. Biden should have blamed the hair implants
Joe "Hollywood" Biden has spent far more time in front of cameras the last 6 years than actually being a Senator. There is hardly another Senator in Congress that better fits as Senator "X" in the old joke "the most dangerous place in Washington is between Senator "X" and a TV camera."

He is not evil, he is just suffering from acute egomania.

71. I have gotten a kick out of Biden on occassion. But
Edited on Thu Feb-01-07 03:44 PM by happydreams
his remarks strike me as racist.
The remarks show a lack of understanding of his own stereotypical views and prejudices that he should have, if he ever intended to, worked out by now.

73. "Preening gasbag" -- WONDERFUL description!
I just called him an "egoistic blowhard putz" in another thread, but "preening gasbag" is definitely more trenchant. ;-)
