I have been going back and forth between anger and depression
for the last month unable to decide which is stronger.
Then this morning, on my way to work, I passed an accident. A huge, gas guzzling SUV had hit a bicycle. As I looked at man with the bicycle helmet laying in gutter, his back tire under the SUV I thought, that is the picture of what our country has become.
I have not been able to stop crying since.
Somebody tell me something positive.

1. Our neighbors got a new puppy! It is a cute little Australian Shepherd.
I haven't met it yet so I don't even know its sex. They'd had another Australian Shepherd when we moved in. He was rather old and died a few years later. They're slightly smaller than Border Collies (we have one of those) and don't have any tails! It is a cute little bugger. I'm sure our dogs (the other is a Sheltie) will be happy to train it on the finer points of being a herding dog - like chasing rabbits.

3. We found a small puppy running down the side of the road
we stopped to get it and it jumped in my wife's arms. He is a little yorkie and we named him ShellBy 'cause we found him by a Shell station :)

We took him to the vet and checked for microchips, none. We had him checked out and after a couple weeks, we had him neutered.

He is a cute little fellow and me and my wife love him.

I feel if we had not stopped to help him that he would have gotten run over within minutes.

9. My Wife And I...
have been breeding Yorkies for almost 20 years. The economy has really taken a toll on our side business. Believe it or not, during good times, a small teacup Yorkie could sell for as much as $5-6,000. Now we sell them for about 75% less than that. The one thing that keeps us going is that we know we are selling "love" and companionship to people who really need both. Nothing will bring a smile to your face faster than a little puppy in your arms.

13. How funny - I once knew a chihuahua named 'Total'
because my friends found him abandoned at a Total gas station.

4. Puppies do help!
I might feel better if I was at home with my puppies.
Well dogs, the youngest is 2 years old, but they are my babies.

I don't want to give up, just sometimes I can't see any hope.

2. I agree that is the picture of what our country has become
But I refuse to give in. I still believe in the principles our country was founded upon. I will not be quiet and I will not quit supporting the candidates I believe will do what is best for our country. Get the crying out of your system, then turn the anger into positive action!

5. How about these ...
You woke up this morning, you are healthy enough to go to work, you have a job (how many can't say that?). Do you have family? Do you have friends? Are your parents still alive? If you have kids, are they healthy? Do you have the means to make a difference in other people's lives? Are you in a position to change the world for the better, even if it's only a little bit?

Bad things happen and we are going through some tough times, but you shouldn't let that stop you from enjoying life and accomplishing things that are important to you.

6. the moment..the future is scary..the past, who knows..stay in the moment
if you can walk, talk, type at your keyboard, help someone, breathe..watch birds, smell a flower, sing..that is enough for the moment..then do the next moment
dont mean to sound trite but in my very darkest hours, i survived by doing that..it works

7. Thanks, I do feel personally lucky.
I have a job, a wonderful husband, friends, family and my health.
I just feel helpless in changing what is wrong with this country and the world.

10. i get depressed thinking about that as well but i do have faith in us
although that is also difficult at times..i also turned off the tv a little over a year ago..never to be turned on again..it is a phony world which is really not your individual world..either on the news or programming..
i believe that the only thing that cannot be stopped is the evolution of human consciousness..people will grow, develop, the kids will see the world differently and determine the outcome differently..its all good..i watched the movie 'social network' about the facebook creator and was awestruck at the way these kids think..that is what cannot be stopped..the light within us and our collective growth..keeps me going..the rest, well..just stay in the moment and do what you can do..love as much as you can

8. Mrs. Lib and I have been involved in a local mentoring group for @5 years
We live in a small town that has a high hispanic population. As you can imagine there are a lot of prejudiced people here.
But we have worked with this group that is trying break a cycle of poverty through mentoring and other educational opportunities.
Since my wife is secretary she keeps all sorts of records. Among them is grades.
We have seen a dramatic rise in grades for those in the program. This is very good news for our mentors and the program.
Our oldest group is now in 8th grade. hey are talking of college. They are talking of careers.

I hope this is the kind of good news you meant. We are so excited for the kids we work with.

16. Try making a gratitude list
Just write down everything you can think of that you're grateful for.
Guaranteed to help.

But I do hear you. I am so darned angry that I'm practically ready to start keying pigmobiles in parking lots. But security cameras would nail me in all likelihood, so I restrain myself and just fantasize doing it..
