Man buckles in 'Diego' doll to drive in HOV lane

Associated Press December 10, 2010

Diego was a model passenger, sitting quietly with seat belt buckled, never fidgeting. But it was the huge, unblinking eyes that made a Washington state trooper suspicious.

The state patrol says troopers were stationed Nov. 29 along an Interstate 405 onramp, pulling over people who were driving in the high occupancy lane with only one person in the car. That's when the odd "passenger" drew one trooper's notice.

The patrol says the trooper stopped the car and found the driver had placed a stuffed Diego doll from the Nickelodeon children's show "Go, Diego, Go!" in the front passenger seat. The unidentified driver said he was late for work so he drove off with his daughter's doll so he could use the HOV lane.

The driver was cited for the HOV lane violation

hee. People regularly zip up the car pool side of the free way entrance
and I can't see a 2nd head in the car. I guess there could be a baby in the back but the cynic in my thinks they are risking that they won't get caught on that short stretch of car pool lane.

11. know a guy who got popped on the 405
Bought one of those "security guy" mannequins from the airline magazine. Drove from South OC to just past the 605 before getting caught. (about 20 - 25 miles) With the fine he had about $750 sunk and was later to work than normal. At least he had something for a Halloween display.

4. That's nothing. In Boston the dummies do the driving.

 HOV and otherwise

One guy got caught with a "passenger" with a football for a head and a helmet on it. (Really)

A woman claimed she hadn't done anything wrong by driving in the HOV lane because she wasn't alone--she was pregnant!

6. Color me skeptical.
How does a police officer see "huge unblinking eyes" when a car blows by at 40+ mph?

And I agree it's inventive and funny. And he deserved the ticket and yes has probably done it repeatedly

.

:)
