Obama vows to fight Republicans -- next year
As fellow Democrats accuse him of caving in to Republicans on the tax cut deal, President Obama is repeatedly promising them that he will fight the GOP aggressively when it takes over the U.S. House and adds senators next month.

"I will be happy to see the Republicans test whether or not I'm itching for a fight on a whole range of issues," Obama said last week. "I suspect they will find I am. And I think the American people will be on my side on a whole bunch of these fights."

Obama has echoed this pledge repeatedly as House and Senate Democrats wrestle with the package that also includes items sought by Obama, including a 13-month extension of unemployment benefits and an array of middle class tax cuts. In a conference call with political supporters, Obama said: "We are going to go right back at Republicans in showing why the things that they wanted in this compromise don't make sense."

One of those fights will be over the very thing that some Democrats are angry about: The two-year extension of George W. Bush-era tax cuts for the nation's wealthiest Americans.

"When they expire in two years, I will fight to end them," Obama said. "Just as I suspect the Republican Party may fight to end the middle-class tax cuts that I've championed and that they've opposed."

2. A little late. If he thought it was hard to rally support with a Democratic
Party majority to end them, it will be impossible in two years. But then again, what do I know? Maybe Republicans will be agreeable in a bipartisan manner, not.

6. What is missing
is his acceptance that giving into the pukes this go around as "hostage takers" will and has emboldened them to merely take more hostages next time. Who's going to stop them? The guy who negotiates with hostage takers? Please. They are horrible, heinous people, but now have Obama over a barrel, defending THEIR policies as good for the country. Fucking Christ on a stick.

They were also on his side when he was touting the public option in health care reform.

In both cases, that didn't matter in the end.

23. The problem is that Obama is Unbelievable, exactly right. Look
at this statement."And I think the American people will be on my side on a whole bunch of these fights."

He is kidding me, right? The American people voted for him overwhelmingly in 2008, what is this WILL be..they WERE/ARE
for the tax cuts to end..but no fight for him now..we need to wait for two more years.

That is one of the most insulting strings of garbage I have heard from him to date.

13. And the check's in the mail, too.
He thinks the public actually believes this? If so, why has he decided to self-flagillate like this when he and the Democrats had almost two clear years to push their agenda, but didn't?

Why has he pushed so hard for a compromise that now, he says, makes "no sense"? Won't it be a hell of a lot harder now to make changes to that compromise once it's approved?

Not buying it anymore.

JOHNNY MATHIS
"Too Much, Too Little, Too Late"
feat. Deniece Williams
(Nat Kipner and John McIntyre Vallins)

Yes, it's over, call it a day
Sorry that it had to end this way
No reason to pretend
We knew it had to end some day, this way

Guess it's over, the kids are gone
What's the use of tryin' to hang on
Somewhere we lost the key
So little left for you and me and it's clear to see

Too much, too little, too late to lie again with you
Too much, too little, too late to try again with you
We're in the middle of ending something that we knew

It's over

Oh, it was over

Too much, too little, too late to ever try again
Too much, too little, too late, let's end it being friends
Too much, too little, too late, we knew it had to end

Ah, it's over

It's over

Guess it's over, the chips are down (whoa)
Nearly all our bridges tumbled down

Whatever chance we try, let's face it why deny
It's over (It's over)
It's over

Too much, too little, too late to ever try again
Too much, too little, too late, let's end it being friends
Too much, too little, too late, we knew it had to end

And it's over

And it's over

And it's over

Too much, too little, too late to ever try again
Too much, too little, too late, let's end it being friends

24. There is no next year. It's NOW or never.
Get rid of all the Republican crap off, and include more progressive tax reforms on it, the more progressive, the better. I'm talking about FDR levels.

Then force Reid to go nuclear now and get it passed. Sign it to law, and watch your popularity rise to the top while passing progressive laws after laws pushing aside the Rethuglicans - let them CRY and WHINE - they have abused us for 30 years. It's revenge time!

Watch as the economy rises, jobs returned to the US, empire building down to nil, military needs reduced to simple defense, and healthcare becomes single payer universal care. Heath. Dental. Eyes. SS remains solvent forever. Republicans (at least the batshit fucknuts) down to near-extinction.

2 years from now? Who knows what the political climate will be! Come off it!

Does anyone think an (R) President (Btw, I will never vote (R)) would allow these tax cuts to expire?

Why risk it? Why not fight for what is right now vs. fighting 2 years from now.

Pfft.

37. It is necessary to parse the exact words Obama uses.
Like when he said he opposed any permanent extension of tax cuts for the rich, that signaled to Republicans that he was open to a temporary extension (wink).

And close examination of his words in this article reveals them to be utterly meaningless. He says "When (the tax cuts for income over $250K) expire in two years, I will fight to end them." Note that he doesn't say he will end them, just that he will fight to end them. He is always careful to leave himself some wiggle room.

What is the point of fighting with them when you need their votes to get something passed?

When there is no chance of it (thanks, voter, or progressives, if you take credit for it) there's an excuse to fight with them.

Because it makes no sense when I read it.

You don't fight the other side when they're in the minority, because you need their help. But you fight them when they're in the majority, because... you don't need them.

Ok, then...

Will he ever stand up for what he suppossedly believes in? Will he fight for any of the promises he made that got him elected in the first place?

With a straight face he tell us he is going to support extending the tax cuts for two years and THEN fight against them? And some people still believe this man? He caves at mere THREATS from Repukes, but at some distant point in the future he promises to fight?

Laughable.
