The Senate has long been useless. The President has demonstrated a penchant for triangulation and, now, outright work with repubicans while cutting out the Democrats. The House was all we had.

And now that is gone, too.

1. yep and Obama has virtually guaranteed
that the republicans will take the oval office and probably the senate in 2012.

Thanks Mr. President.

10. This is what concerns me. If people want Republican policies, they vote Republican,
not Republican-lite.

15. Obama's Republican like moves leads me to think that perhaps
he chose to run as a Democrat rather than Republican for the Senate seat was a calculation of expedience, just like this compromise tax deal. If so, he should publicly declare that he is now a Republican. (Which, of course, is a joke)

13. I'm voting for Obama again
It's not that bad. Much better than Bush. And the economy should be rebounding by 2012.

18. So even if the President caves completely to the Reich-wing, you'll still vote for him?
It's not that bad? My long deceased Father used to say the canary that sings the loudest is the best fed.

And he wasn't talking about birds,

2. The people get what they deserve...
Either because they collectively ask for it, or because they collectively tolerate it.

3. Vote count was down dramatically here in Ohio. 40% less than in the last off-year election
which was 2006.

Ohioans are going to pay big time for their lack of interest in voting. The ones that need the most, stayed away from the polls.

6. Yes, that's part of what I'm talking about, although
I'm beginning to sympathize with disillusioned voters. I'm also talking about resistance to ideas like boycotts.

4. The Senate is a defensive body
We used it against W, and we'll use it against the GOP in the House.

5. Apparently, the "people" have spoken...
at least those who turned out at the polls. The ones who stayed away from their polling places, though, may have spoken the loudest.

Consequences of actions and inactions, I believe.

But, hey...it could get worse in 2012, you know.

9. Nah. There are stacks of bills passed in the house still sitting there.
With large Dem majorities in both chambers.

The same will be true going forward, although I expect less fight out of Senate Dems.

11. I recall 700 Bills passed the House that didn't make it through the "Dem controlled" Senate
Edited on Mon Dec-13-10 10:46 AM by leveymg
Who really controls the Senate? It's not the Democrats I know.

Same question can be asked about the "Democratic" President we elected.

17. yup--and they will spend all their time working furiously to make any escape impossible
with rule changes and re-districting and trick after trick they are unashamed to perform in order to get more power. How else can a tiny minority rule without effective challenges? They have to do it that way because the people don't support the Republican agenda in any way. yet they will lie and lie about how America is "center right" What BS!!!

19. I've been thinking about this quite a bit in terms of now
Especially given that we only have a short time of having a Democratic majority, yet the major item being pushed is an agreement with Republicans.
And apparently, there's little support being shown from Obama about having the Senate stay in session to try to push through other bills.

It feels like the Democratic House is being undercut even before changing hands to the Republicans.
