Geez...was Molly an Athiest?
The reason I am asking is that I have looked at various Conservative message boards tonight.
Without fail, there have been a few posts hoping that "she saw the light", "accepted
Christ" "found the Lord"...blah, blah blah.

I can only assume they believe conservative Republics will see heaven, and us lowly Liberal Democrats will be lucky to get an upper tier in hell.

What's wrong with these people? Do they honestly believe we will be judged on our political beliefs?
And, if they do...how can they begin to justify their treatment of the poor, the hungry, the suffering, the dying, that their party turns a blind eye to?

I don't get it. I don't think I ever will.

3. That's all these cretins have
is their political beliefs. THeir political beliefs and their religious beliefs are identical. So God has to reward them on their mean spirited hypocricy and hate filled messages.

I think they may be in for a surprise...

5. To the freeps, they are the judges of who is holy enough in their eyes...
... and if you don't believe in their God- watch out!

One even has a sig line that says something like "I respect the freedom to worship however you choose. And I know that they are all wrong."

This isn't an exact quote, but it's close enough. :eyes:

6. You can bet Molly didn't believe in a Repug deity of any sort
I seem to remember her mentioning that it was none of anyone's business who or who you did or didn't believe in...

She's probably dancing with whoever it is up there right now. RIP Molly!

8. Exactly.
I probably should have titled my post differently. I do not judge anyone...believers or not.

It's not up to me, and as you said...none of my business.

Check for the latest messages from "PCisKillingTheUS", he's quite a winner. You'll probably have to subscribe to the message boards before viewing them.

9. The far right religious right
assumes that anyone who doesn't want a theocracy must be an atheist/secular humanist/etc. They don't consider many Christians to be "real Christians". I have no idea whether or not Molly Ivins was spiritual or agnostic or atheist - just pointing out it doesn't matter per the responses you have read.

10. I would say that she certainly epitomized the teachings of Jesus in her daily life
You know, as regards the BIG, IMPORTANT SHIT: Feed the hungry, care for the sick, help the poor, nurture the children, clothe the naked...all of those Jesus-ish things, she was for.

She wasn't in favor of moneychangers in the temple, or holy men in the houses of politics, or any kind of faith-based government entities. She belived in the render unto Caesar business...these Repiglicans should take a page from her book, the bums...

Just make mention of this of this bible verse and ask the fundies why their leaders have lived such lives of depravity compared to her.

12. The lord hates gays, wants the birth control pill illegal, and favors a flat tax.
Therefore, obviously no Democrats believe in "the lord".

Eh. For what it's worth, I hope those folks pull their heads out of their asses while they're still here on Earth, because one thing I *am* relativelly certain of is, their ridiculous cartoon versions of the "afterlife" don't exist.

13. Religion
The thing that gets me about republicans and religion is, they might yell and preach about it, but they don't practice it.

Look at bush who says he talks to God. God told him to invade Iraq. Who in their right mind would believe that God would talk to bush, except to tell him to watch out for lightening bolts.

Here is a man that has cut every single social program to benefit the poor and needy in this country. Would the real God approve of this. NO..

Here is a man who started an unprovoked war that has completly destroyed a country, responsible for hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi and thousands of our own military deaths. Would God approve of this. NO>

So how can any body - any body in their right mind say bush or any of the republicans that have "enbolden" the terrorists are religious.

15. Yes, I agree. Here's how I think about it . . .
. . . Say God IS like the Republican vision - a big man who enjoys throwing people into a fiery pit to burn in torment for the rest of eternity - the smoke of which can be seen by people in heaven, and they KNOW what's happening down there (that's what the Bible says, anyway). What kind of MFing cruelty is that? How could you enjoy heaven for one second knowing that there were millions and BILLIONS of people down in this fiery pit screaming in agony?

I wouldn't want any part of it, myself. And it seems odd that my pathetic nonChristian morality seems superior to that of the professed Christians. Doesn't it?

but it didn't really take in the long run. But it didn't hurt her none.

17. My first non-Xtian thought when I heard the news this morning...
"I wonder if the Valkyries wore leather chaps and rode cow ponies for the occasion. 'Cause if anyone these days deserves an escort from Brunhild and the girls, it's Molly!"

A decidedly non-Jesus approach that the fundies would go into spasims over. Valhalla, heaven, the summerland, a cosmic waiting room for souls to be reincarnated, whatever awaits us, I know Molly's there. Maybe doing shots with Ann Richards.
