Driving Across America... with Molly
Edited on Thu Feb-01-07 12:48 AM by TomInTib
I have posted this poem/song here, before.
But it just seems so apropos, tonight...

The gentle winds of change, I hear the sound
It stirs the quiet desert sand
I ride the rails of joy and sorrow down
Into the canyons of this Land

Thru my windshield I see Fear and Faith
Rich and Poor from town to town
One owns a Bible and one owns a safe
But neither walk on common ground

Tonight I'm driving across America
Mister, can I talk to you?
Tonight I'm driving across America
Oh, say, can't you see what I've been through?

I see a Black Man with his hands held high
I see a fatherless son
I see a policeman who wonders why
He keeps his tears locked in his gun

And I see a White Man with his eyes blood red
'cause he's been told what he should feel
And I see too many women cut to shreds
And taking half their lives to heal

Tonight I'm driving across America
Mister, can I talk to you?
Tonight I'm driving across America
Oh, say, can you see what I see, too?

We rise and fall from Sea to Shining Sea
Balancing Freedom and Change
Waiting for a Purple Mountain Majesty
To be our Saviour when it rains

Tonight I'm driving across America
Mister, can I talk to you?
Tonight I'm driving across America
Oh, say, can you see what I see through?

Oh, Molly can you see what we see through?
Vaya con Dios, mi amiga.
Until we meet again.
We will fight the good fight.
We promise you this.

Tom

1. You know...
I have this feeling that she is somewhere with Ann Richards tonight, doing tequila shooters and laughing. Lots of laughing. Both of them. Glad to see each other again.

3. I said to my friend tonight:

"I don't know if there's an afterlife, but when I die I want to go where ever Ann Richards and Molly Ivins are."

9. You were friends.
I'm sorry, man.

Breast cancer got my mom last year. If there's something worse, I haven't seen it.

16. Life sometimes gets curious...
My dear Mother almost lost her fight with breast cancer.

But she beat it, somehow.

More on Molly in your Inbox.

6. Thanks Tom.
I'm going to send this to my best friend from high school. She's a journalist . . . and she'll appreciate your words.

It is a comfort to me, too.

Indeed, we will fight the good fight. Now more than ever.

10. She was right. And we will.
The neocons think they're going to have us at point of gun and sword.

Wrong.

12. TomInTib , I knew
when I posted on the weekend that she had gone home from the hospital that it wouldn't be long
I guess I hoped she'd be around longer though. I wouldn't want her to suffer, she's in a better place.

I'm sorry for your loss, I know you were friends.
