See what happens when fear and paranoia take over the United States?

<snip>
Officials said it contained an electronic circuit board with some components that were "consistent with an improvised explosive device," but they said it had no explosives....

...Officials responded to at least nine locations, including the Boston University Bridge, the Longfellow Bridge, the McGrath O'Brien Highway in Somerville, a comic store on Harvard Avenue in Brighton, a location near the intersection of Stuart and Columbus streets, a location near Washington and Water streets and under the McCarthy Overpass in Somerville, according to Davis....

<snip>

ZOMG, Al Qaeda is attacking a comic book store!

In other news, Fatherland Security is warning Americans to be on the lookout for this "person of interest", who is believed to be connected with a terrorist organization:

1. This line gets me
"Officials said it contained an electronic circuit board with some components that were "consistent with an improvised explosive device,"
Let's see-it had a chip used as a timer, a chip used as a counter, some capacitors, some resistors, a couple of diodes and a few leds. Practically every circuit board in the world has these components on it on one form or another. So what they're telling us is that if you have any electronics on or around you, you are a "potential" bomber???????

7. uh oh... then that means anyone with a cell phone or ipod could be
busted at the whim of the officer in question as a suspected bomber... Don't give them any more ideas!

2. The 'terrorists' are winning.
Terrorism can be successful without killing people - mass hysteria and disruption through fear work equally as well; we become paralyzed by fear. That fear allows our rights to be whittled away.

Oh - and when I say 'terrorists', I don't mean the ones Lil Boots says want to kill us for our freedoms.

4. When fear & paranoia take over
We bomb countries that are far away and full of brown people. Interestingly enough natural resources seem plentiful in some of the places we "need" to attack in order to "protect ourselves".

6. Corporate News LOVES Fear...
Nothing makes a dull news day "exciting" like a nice bomb threat or explosion or some type of "disaster in the making". Watching the coverage of this story yesterday, I was all but sensing some of these news readers were hoping there was some "fire" here and that there was some type of real terrorist attack. Getting people all worked up means ratings and "glory" for these asshats...and the greater the disaster, the bigger the "glory".

10. Bingo! No Such Thing As Bad PR
I've watched Adult Swim...Robot Chicken has become a Sunday night addiction here, but I rarely watch any of the other shows. I wasn't even aware of this cartoon...now I am...and so are millions. It'll be interesting to see both how Cartoon Network handles this on the air (what snarky commentary they may make) and if this bumps the ratings.

Corporate Media and Corporate advertising are one and the same. These channels aren't programmed for us, it's programmed for them.

Cheers...

11. I Was Walking Down The SuperMarket Isle The Other Day And Lo and Behold I Saw....
a blinking red light about shoulder high on the refrigerated shelving door. It was contained in a red box that strangely had something sticking out of it. I was alarmed. I quickly informed the management to evacuate the store - for - it was a target for some deranged terrorist. It made sense - strike at the very heart of American - where they buy there food.

As the store was quickly evacuated and the bomb squads arrived in all their 'hooded glory' - I instantly felt safe. We were being protected.

The suspense heightened as the 'hooded savior' bravely entered the store.

Then the tension was broken as he radioed back to his bomb squad commander.

He indicated that - if he purchased 5 First Choice Frozen Meals - he would save a $1.00 off the purchase price.

Officials said it contained an electronic circuit board with some components that were "consistent with an improvised explosive device," but they said it had no explosives.... (sarcasm)
