Need input from you guys.
Edited on Sat Mar-01-08 02:44 PM by gateley
This is a post from frogcycle. I've taken all the bio info, death stats and pics and put it into an e-mail. I'm going to send a copy to every congressperson and Senator, and some from the MSM, too. Two questions:

Looking for suggestions what to put in the Subject line that will get them to open the e-mail. (Once open, they don't have to click on a link -- it's all there in your face like froggie's post). I thought KIA might get a pass - they'd know it was just "another anti-war" e-mail. Then I was thinking something like "For your viewing pleasure", but decided that was too snarky and many of them feel as we do... I'm currently toying with the idea of "You'll have my vote...." - something along those lines, since they won't be able to tell I'm not REALLY from their State. But I need to make it GOOD, enticing to open, etc., so I'm turning to you guys.

Secondly, At the top of the e-mail, after I write a BRIEF message (need advice on that, too), I inserted my sig line - complete with Joe's quote and the photo of the coffins. Do you think I SHOULDN'T use Joe's name? Maybe I'll send the first one to him and ask. What do you guys think?

Thanks!!

EDIT: Just went to his Senate site, and to contact him, it's got the "form' - not the e-mail address. Anybody know how to find that out (because I'll have to do it for all of Congress, too). I'll call his office on Monday and ask.

1. for direct email contacts, can try this pattern
I've seen some that appear to work with the format

senator@lastname.senate.gov (e.g., senator@biden.senate.gov)

but that may be out of date. I guess the worst that happens is they're bounced back to you. They all look like they have webforms, I think to cope with the spam.

I'm willing to guess that a long email with many pictures will be junked as spam. I've found that happening for some electronic newsletters I send out at work - even as much as a small logo file ends up with me getting bounce messages saying it was rejected as spam or for file size.

If you'd like a bunch of postal address for them in one spot, I have a bunch for the northeast from a project at work. I realized that would be a big roll o' stamps.

2. I'll give it a shot and see what happens.
I hope that these e-mails DO get through - can't fork out the dough for stamps. Plus I'd have to print out HUNDREDS of them.

If it doesn't work due to size, maybe I'll just send one pic and the list of names of the others, although it's sobering and so REAL to look at all those beautiful faces.

Thanks! :hi:

3. As a general rule
As a general rule to contact a Senator or Representative you have to go through their contact forms. If that is the case, all you have to do is copy and paste your email into the contact section. Many times you are limited to a number of words. You could do some work and collage all of the pics into one - I think that would be powerful - the email wouldn't be so large that way. I'm not sure what quote of Joe's you're going after...that might help in getting to the subject line.
Since I don't know, how about....PLEASE STAND WITH ME...or HOW MANY MORE..... or 4200 and counting (whatever the war death count is for that day.) Also know, that it is the secretary that opens the emails...
Thanks for fighting for those killed and their families, I can tell you tho, the families do not want their children/sons/daughters to have died for nothing.

4. About the contact form thing -- that's what I'm trying to circumvent.
Edited on Sat Mar-01-08 10:06 PM by gateley
I'll give it a try with one and see if it works or not.

I was figuring that when the secretaries open the mail - it would have to hit them like it hit us, don't you think? And they could either forward it to their boss or print it out. That's what I'd do, and I'd do it anonomously if I had to -- like put it on his/her desk when the oast-cay was ear-clay and lie like a mofo when asked if I did it. :7

Thanks for the Subject line suggestions. I'm just hoping I'll actually get this to work!

:hi:

5. Why circumvent????
I would use the contact form, as that is the most likely to be opened. What you are sending them is fact, faces...names....human beings.... It never hurts to remind our Representatives why they are there and that war has a cost that impacts families forever. They have a responsibility to defend and protect! Subject Line - Why not go with Joe's Words - YOU HAVE A SACRED OBLIGATION. Keep it honest and respectful. Lest we never forget....

6. Because the size of the e-mail is prohibitive --
wouldn't fit in the space allowed in the contact form.

What began as a BRILLIANT idea is falling apart, bit by bit, but I'm still working on it!
