Press Release

BIDEN Issues Statement on Russian Elections

Washington, DC –Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Joseph R. Biden, Jr. (D-DE) issued the following statement on Sunday’s elections in Russia:

“Dmitry Medvedev is taking over one of the toughest jobs in the world. Russia is facing endemic corruption, demographic collapse, a brewing insurgency in the North Caucasus and spiraling inflation. High global energy prices have masked the full magnitude of these problems, but Vladimir Putin’s autocratic methods have failed to address them and alienated countries that once looked to Moscow as a potential ally. I hope that Mr. Medvedev will move Russia toward a more accountable, effective system of governance. The United States wants a strong, prosperous, democratic Russia that can be a partner in tackling many common challenges. However, the flawed conduct of Sunday’s Potemkin elections, as well as unanswered questions about who is really in charge, serves as a reminder that Russia is falling well short of its true potential. Sunday’s elections also remind us that the United States should focus less on personalities and more on the policies other countries pursue.”

(that's the whole thing)

edit to add - interesting how Joe links this with policies toward other countries - it has to be about relations with other COUNTRIES, not personalities. Same as Pakistan. Good general rule. "Biden Doctrine #1"? Hope someone's listening...

1. Don't count on it...
There is so much noise and rage out there, I don't think anyone is listening. Have you checked out Dough4Joe. It seems to pick up a vote or two a day. Makes me wonder why. I also wonder why Biden didn't send out requests from his email list to help retire his debt. I'm a bit disappointed that he hasn't used the list to give us the occasional update. I'd help him out a bit to help retire the debt, but I guess I would like to be asked. Just random thoughts.

2. Just a thought...
During the debate when Hillary kind of stumbled over Medvedev's name, and Obama didn't even attempt it, I was thinking -- all together now -- JOE WOULD KNOW HIS NAME!

3. I'm going to post this out there -- it'll sink like a stone, no doubt....
I think it's pretty much a given that Medvedev is Putin's puppet and although Joe is sounding diplomatic, it's obvious he's hip to the real situation.

5. Joe could handle this...no problem
I can't help but notice the parallels:( When you point a
finger, there are three others pointing back at you...

“[POTUS #44] is taking over one of the toughest jobs in the
world. [The US] is facing endemic corruption,... and spiraling
inflation. High global energy prices have masked the full
magnitude of these problems, but [Bushco’s] autocratic methods
have failed to address them and alienated countries that once
looked to [Washington] as a potential ally. I hope that [POTUS
#44] will move [the US] toward a more accountable, effective
system of governance. The United [States' traditional allies
and allies-to -be] want a strong, prosperous, democratic
[United States] that can be a partner in tackling many common
challenges. However, the flawed conduct of [2000 and 2004's]
elections, as well as unanswered questions about who is really
in charge, serves as a reminder that [the United States] is
falling well short of its true potential. [2000, 2004, and
2008's] elections also remind us that the United States should
focus less on personalities and more on the policies other
countries pursue.”

6. HI!
If we've met before, I apologize for not remembering (or for trying to be coherent at 4am), but if not --

WELCOME! :hi:

And man, you got that right -- Joe could handle it no problem-o.

8. Been lurking since a bit before Iowa...
I come here for news on Joe, Photography for some relaxing discussion and pictures, and GD to slowly become more and more cynical and disgusted with our government. Thanks for the welcome!

9. true, the US is in no position to be lecturing other countries about elections
I figure when they heard about the Iowa caucus, and how it got rid of the best Dems, they probably thought, huh?

10. no kidding
This year, "experience" was a euphemism and "qualification" a four-letter word.
