“I thank the senator from Ohio,” said Mr. Biden, the committee chairman. “And I wish he would not reference the senator from Illinois and cause anyone to cheer. I can only imagine the headline in The Washington Post: Biden throws out people for cheering for Democratic candidate.”
We certainly can’t attribute his admonition to sour grapes after his own failed bid for the Democratic nomination. Mr. Biden chastised the audience for clapping after his own opening statement earlier in the hearing.
In fact, Mr. Biden even joked about a possible perception of slight when Senator Bill Nelson of Florida agreed to let Mr. Obama speak before him, out of turn, citing Mr. Obama’s “scheduling problem.”
Mr. Biden again had nightmares of newsprint in his head: “Just imagine that headline, as a supporter for Hillary,” he said, before relenting. “I think it’s a good idea.”

(he was referring to Nelson having endorsed Clinton, though my impression of it was that Biden thought it was a nice non-partisan gesture from Nelson, not quite the way this author put it)
