Communist Manifesto has the key, Lula holds

BRASILIA, 5 (ANSA) – Brazilian president Luis Lula da Silva said at a meeting with businessmen and trade unionists that Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto provides some useful recipes to overcome the current international crisis.

Lula quoted the text published by Marx and Friedrich Engels in 1848 to maintain that a world in mid-crisis is the right framework to embrace ideas what he describes as daring ideas.

"We must make the most of this crisis and do what we lacked the courage to do 20 years ago", he assured, according to Agencia Estado.

"This is the moment of truth and the time to do politics, and not precisely of appeasement: this crisis originated at the very heart of the countries where those who used to know everything were born", he remarked.

Speaking to Jorge Gerdau, a businessman and C.E.O. of one of Latin America's biggest steelworks, lashed out at the lack of production credits.

"Gerdau, where is all the money that circulated before the crisis? Did it vanished?", Lula da Silva inquired.

At the opening of the year's first meeting of the Economic and Social Development Council, made up of ministers, businessmen, trade unionists and economists, the Brazilian president pointed out: "Not only do we have to establish rules for financial systems and tax havens, we also have to re-establish credit around the world, because the economy won't work without credits", he stressed. And to that end, he recommended the developed countries to have the "courage" to nationalize the banks.

Lula suggests Communist Manifesto to overcome crisis

Brazilian president Luiz Lula da Silva kept laying blame on the industrialized world for the generation of the international crisis, and suggested the adoption of some of the ideas put forward by Marxism to get over it while urging the great businessmen to help re-establish the credit system.

At the opening of the year's first meeting of the Economic and Social Development Council, made up of ministers, businessmen, trade unionists and economists, President da Silva pointed out that the Communist Manifesto published by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in the mid-nineteenth century provides some "useful recipes" and "daring ideas" to stand up to the international crisis.

"This is the moment of truth and the time to do politics, and not precisely of appeasement: this crisis originated at the very heart of the countries where those who used to know everything were born", he remarked, according to Agencia Estado, ANSA reported.

Lula urged to "make the most of this crisis and do what we lacked the courage to do 20 years ago".

In that respect, he referred to the lack of credits for production and blamed it on Jorge Gerdau, C.E.O. of one of Latin America's biggest steelworks.

"Gerdau, where is all the money that circulated before the crisis? Did it vanished?", Lula da Silva inquired.

"Not only do we have to establish rules for financial systems and tax havens, we also have to re-establish credits around the world, because the economy won't work without credits", he stressed.

Finally, the President held that coming up with regulations for financial systems and tax havens is not enough to overcome the crisis, since it is also necessary to "re-establish credit around the world, because the economy won't work without credits".

1. "Gerdau, where is all the money that circulated before the crisis?"--great Lulu line!
I've been wondering that myself. You get the feeling that certain "made men" have sucked it all up and stored it somewhere, and it's about to come down like a great, worldwide tsunami, to surround and consume all the assets on earth--all the property, all the ag land, all the water, forest and oil resources, all the homes and business buildings, all the businesses, all the savings, all the remaining solvency of any country, and all the food on our tables and the clothes on our backs, in one gigantic gawdawful, world-destroying flood.

What would be their right to do that--just to suck all up and own everything?

But I was thinking of it in a slightly different way. We have all these people who want to work, including many talented, brilliant people who know how to organize things, and we have all these things that people can make, including many talented brilliant people who know how to design things, and we have all these people who need the things that people can make. So...why aren't we doing it? What is this magical-mystical thing called "credit"? Why can't we just jumpstart credit, and say: let there be credit; credit is. And people get the materials together and get it organized, and make things and move them to markets. And charge a little extra for the products than it cost to make them--and thus pay back the jumpstarted credit?

What is the sense of having banks if they won't give credit--if they are hording and looting and planning future horrors, or even if they're not, even if they're just sitting there like dumbbells? What's the use of them? END them, extend ourselves credit, and get going!

2. It's clear arrangement are going to HAVE to be made to secure the necessities
Edited on Sat Mar-07-09 01:08 PM by Judi Lynn
the entire world still needs, even though the small, narrow group of parasitic predators has almost everything completely under its control.

F'r one thing, what about the public need, and RIGHT for information on what is happening at the local level, as in how taxes are collected and spent, how the local law enforcement people are conducting themselves, as in police brutality, politicians, use of public funds, property rights, education, health matters like clean, affordable water, food, etc., etc., etc. going along the chain all the way to national security, and national policy regarding other people in other countries.

The way it's working now, we got NUTHIN'. We're wandering in the dark, whistling past the graveyard, keeping our fingers crossed, and some of us keep trying to find out more, any way we can. A lot of people seemed lulled to sleep. Is it it "The American Dream?"

It's not healthy natural human nature to be managed, handled like this, is it, thinking of the great writers from the 1930's.....

Clearly, alternatives to the already completely controlled and manipulated corporate public perception molding being done by what's left of our major newspapers, and the desiccated and utterly laughable wire services will be needed. You can't keep an entire planet under your thumb, no matter how many stupid scum right-wingers infest message boards and other places democratically motivated people gather to trade information.

We all know they expose themselves freely and artlessly to anyone who reads their material at all. As soon as you see "where they're coming from," you know how much you can trust what they're saying. They are attempting to clog up the arteries where we come to pool resources, hoping to shout us all down. In time, I'd bet many people will learn to simply ignore them, and work around the idiots.

It will be necessary for the PEOPLE to find trustworthy ways to still get at the information we need, to get the news we used to turn to newspapers to get, to keep ourselves aware of what is actually happening with our own brothers and sisters and fellow beings across the planet.

We see it's not where it used to be. That's gone. We're going to have to create new resources.

As that has happened, and must happen with a simple human requirement like information, it will have to happen in the other essential areas, as well.

How the world will react to the willful paralysis of our traditional sources will be an opportunity for incredible creativity, and no doubt, no doubt at all, the people will WIN. The imagery might come to you as brains rewiring themselves after strokes.

It's going to happen.

3. They have no "right" to own everything. We have "given" them permission to do so.
All we have to do is deny them our permission., and, as you say... get going.

4. Yeah, I know. You apply logic and you are thought to be crazy, because
logic ain't in it. The first step of brainwashing is frying the logic circuits. You look at something like the 'TRADE SECRET' voting machines all over the country, and it's so-o-o anti-logical. You begin to understand that we live in "Alice in Wonderland." I know what you're saying--that "we" have to "deny them" permission, but I also know all of the devious and blatant ways that our power as a sovereign people has been destroyed, or, people have learned to act like they have no power. It gets grooved into their brains so they can't think logically about who is supposed to have power in this country. Well, I do think a great awakening is going on. It hasn't quite gotten to critical mass yet, but critical mass can happen suddenly. We just have to repair the disconnect between 'we, the people' and the power we are supposed to have. That's why I'm so onto transparent vote counting. That's the actual, real power--our vote--the means by which we empower our reps to do our will--and that has been totally messed with.
