1. Ch 21 prelim report: FMLN 57%, ARENA 43%
6:45 pm Channel 21 Megavision has a preliminary count showing the FMLN winning 57% to 43%. TCS shows the FMLN with 53%. It's not looking good for ARENA.

http://luterano.blogspot.com/

It doesn't say what % of the vote this was based on, nor if these are exit polls.

5. My first thought, not enough of a lead to overcome ARENA election fraud.
I'm afraid we're in for a long night, and possibly a scenario like Mexico, involving late night electronic tabulator shenanigans.

4%--argh! Well, the corpo/fascist press has been writing the narrative for election fraud for several days now, saying that months of the FMLN candidate running 10% to 15% points ahead had now, somehow, at the last minute, become a tie. NYT. WSJ. All of them.

And how did Ch 21 come up with 57% to 43% favoring FMLN? If those were exit polls, something is very amiss.

13. ARENA

lady just said the difference was now 2 percentage points. She said ARENA is used to winning by a large margins but this time it might win by TWO votes. Yep, looks like a long night .. I am concerned about how FLMN backers might react if they ARENA really dares to steal it.

Second update coming up shortly.

by 51 - 54%.

11. God, I hope you're right! The 4% margin for FMLN may be based on only 33% reporting.
That's only about 800,000 votes total. (I think all voters is 4 million?)

51.28% FMLN
48.72% ARENA

http://luterano.blogspot.com/ - says this is TSE official results. That's only a 2% or so lead. Is there something more recent, based on 40% reporting?

15. CISPES confirms: only 33% counted, FMLN 51.28% vs ARENA 48.78%.
http://cispes.org/09electionsblog/

That's too close for comfort. Only 2%. But not a definitive sample. And I have no idea how to judge it. Are these ARENA areas, for instance? If so, that may be why FMLN are dancing in the streets. But I'm still jittery about late-night foul play.

the appeal by the elections tribunal director for the people to remain calm? He said also that it was too early for any of the two candidates to proclaim himself winner.

They're apparently going to declare victory shortly...

Victory FMLN!
March 16, 2009 by voicesfromelsalvador

FMLN communications chief Sigfredo Reyes has announced that with a little over 50% of the vote in, the FMLN leads 52% to 48%. Analyzing their exit polls and these results, they are essentially calling it a victory. They are inviting everyone in El Salvador to the Redondell de Masferrer for a victory celebration. The Candidate will be there, and will be making the announcement.

Congratulations FMLN and Mauricio Funes for this historic moment!

21. Oops! I didn't see that Arcos post, with over 70% reporting--FMLN down to 3% lead.
Edited on Sun Mar-15-09 09:55 PM by Peace Patriot
What a nail-biter! This is still unsafe territory--3%--with a group like ARENA in charge of things. But again, Funes/FMLN may know where the votes are coming from, and what that portends. Or maybe he's not going to declare victory, just wait it out until the numbers are firmer.
