The President of the Republic of Mali, Amadou Toumani Toure, praised the results of the Operation Miracle free eye-surgery program through which some 5,000 people of this African nation have recovered their sight thanks to the work of Cuban specialists.
Toumani Toure met on Wednesday with the Cuban ambassador in Mali, Alberto Miguel Otero Lopez, to check on the cooperation efforts of the island’s specialists in this country.
The African leader described the work of the Cuban health personnel as very valuable and sent his best wishes to the Cuban people and to President Fidel Castro.
The Republic of Mali has borders with Algeria and Mauritania to the North; with Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast and Guinea Conakry to the South; with Niger to the East; and with Mauritania and Senegal to the West.
Its capital is Bamako; its official language is French and it has a population of approximately 11 million.
