Is there a trustworthy Spanish speaking DU'er who would look at this?
First, here's the google translation of an article in Colombia's largest newspaper, El Tiempo which just doesn't really come through well, at ALL. It's possible, however, to see that this is important, concerning, I think, a session in which Uribe was question in connection to the investigation of his cousin, Mario Uribe Escobar.

I'll post the google English, "ginglish," then the link to El Tiempo:
April 29, 2008

Alvaro Uribe extended at this hour complaint against former president of the Court, July Cesar Valencia

In the midst of a great safety device, the agent arrived at nine o'clock in the judicial proceedings, and is interrogated by the representative investigator, Carlos Ramiro Chavarria.

Defending Valencia said that there is no possibility of reconciliation.

President Uribe did not want to give statements to the entry of the Commission on accusations of the House, where he conducts the expanded complaint.

The representative researcher, Carlos Ramiro Chavarria, said that the diligence was expected that the agent would confirm his allegations by insult against Valencia, who said in an interview that the Head of State had called for the claim by linking the process to the parapolitics his cousin, former Senator Mario Uribe.

"The President will make an extension, will possibly include some facts that were not. Arriving Valencia or its proxy, they might also ask," said Chavarria. Indeed, the defence lawyer, Ramiro Bejarano, was present.

Bejarano, former director of DAS and strong critic of the Head of State, ruled to be giving a reconciliation with the agent in the process.

"We have spent some preliminary discussions between different people have spoken and I can not see there being any possibility of reconciliation," said Bejarano.

The lawyer described the denunciation of President Uribe against Valencia as a "trick" because he said, occurs in an "unfortunate historical moment when the Supreme Court is trying mostly to friends and allies of Mr President."

He hoped that the Commission accused acted "within the canons of law".

1. I'll take a look at it and get back to you.
Google translations are worthless.

President Uribe’s accusations against the President of the Supreme Court of Colombia: Another attack on the independence of the judiciary

The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) is outraged at President Uribe’s decision to file a criminal complaint against the President of the Supreme Court of Colombia, Dr. César Julio Valencia Copete, on charges of insult and slander. FIDH considers that this, together with previous attacks on the court’s Criminal Chamber, constitutes a grave assault on the independence of the judiciary ...

FIDH fears that the government is attempting to hinder the process of the ‘cleaning up’ of Colombian institutions which should contribute to strengthening the legitimacy of the State and to the full implementation of the Rule of Law.

The dispute relates to the investigation that began in September 2007 of former senator Mario Uribe, cousin of the President, who is currently on trial accused of possible links with paramilitary groups. There had already been a confrontation between President Uribe and the Supreme Court when the President accused a Supreme Court Judge of “conspiracy” after an interview with the paramilitant José Moncada, alias ‘Tasmania’, on 10 September. The Supreme Court demanded “respect” for its work and called on the government to refrain from standing in the way of justice ...

FIDH will present these facts to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers. FIDH calls upon the courts, judges and lawyers of the world to express their solidarity with the Supreme Court of Colombia, in particular with its Criminal Chamber and with the President of the Court, Judge César Julio Valencia Copete ...

4. Wow! That's very helpful. "called on the government to refrain from standing in the way of justice"
Downright pathetic they are put in the position of having to make this public plea, isn't it?

(I apologize for the clumsy wording of my original post: was trying to indicate that although I know there is a Uribe-supporting person who posts at D.U., (maybe under two screen names) I really wouldn't be interested in reading what he/they would offer as a translation of anything on any subject. Pro-fascist is always not acceptable.)

News on the things we want to know about is almost impossible to find. Thank you very much.
