I just ate an authentic Colombian almojábana.
And it was delicious, thank you. :9

My mom brings them fresh from Miami, and they last for months in the freezer.

If not tonight, I'll let you know tomorrow sometime.

2. Thanks to the regulars on the LA forum, for the committed
and passionate exchange of information and ideas.

I hope you don't mind an informal thread for a change. There are many things about Latin America that are always good.

4. It looks like almojábanas originate in Alicante, Spain,
where fellow DUer bherrera is from, and like a lot of good things Spanish, have an Arab origin.

5. The description sounds wonderful. Never heard of these treats. Wow.
Spain's reputation is redeemed by having created them!

Oh, yeah, Flamenco dancing is orginally from elsewhere, isn't it? The singing part distinctly reminds one of Arabic music, I think.

Also, Spanish architecture, the images you never forget, is inspired by Arabic design, isn't it?

6. I have a friend from Spain who is a neoconservative neoliberal.
Or is it the other way around?

Anyway, he will tell you that the Arab influence on Spain is no big deal. His dislike of Muslims and Mexicans goes beyond the usual neoconservative neoliberal enmity.

There are some recipes on the Web if you want to try making almojabanas yourself. If you're in South Florida, go to El Bodegon in West Palm Beach for the real deal. :9
