BOGOTA, Colombia - A female Colombian rebel commander has surrendered and is urging other guerrillas to abandon the conflict.

Nelly Avila Moreno, known as Karina, issued the call Monday in a news conference. Her surrender is the government's latest victory against the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia.

Avila says she gave up Sunday after more than two decades as a FARC rebel due to relentless military pressure. The army had her surrounded and the government had a bounty on her head.

Karina operated in the Colombia's northwestern coffee zone. She says the FARC "are breaking up" in that area.
