German expert warns against potential US operations in Venezuela
Caracas, Wednesday May 28 , 2008

German expert warns against potential US operations in Venezuela

The possibility of a US military incursion into Venezuela "is nearby," according to German political expert Heinz Dieterich.

"Washington is not prepared to lose Latin America in the competition with India, China and Europe," said Dieterich on Tuesday night during a debate in Montevideo, DPA quoted.

He thinks it is a "live-or-die" situation for the US government. Therefore, they would be ready to implement a military plan, which could include an invasion or an attack from Colombia.

"For that reason, they brought the Fourth Fleet back, wiped out the Colombian guerrillas and will make Colombia play the same role that Honduras played against Nicaragua" in 1979.

In the opinion of the German expert, a PhD in Social Sciences of Bremen University who holds a Master degree from Frankfurt's Goethe University, "conventional military pressure will increase" on Venezuela.

1. Here's the article that Heinz Dietrich wrote on this topic
I posted it a few days ago, but thought it a good idea to add here as well.

With Evo and the FARC Weakened, Washington Begins its Checkmate Against Hugo Chávez and Rafael Correa

Heinz Dieterich - Rebelión

Translation: Machetera

1. The Checkmate Scenario

Washington has reached the following conclusions:

1. The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) have lost their operational capacity.
2. It has managed to neutralize the Evo Morales government through the creation of a parallel state in the four provinces associated with "Camba Nation."
3. Its successes in Colombia and Bolivia set the state to begin the checkmate against the governments of Hugo Chávez and Rafael Correa. This is the reason for the growing military provocations by Uribe's troops, the U.S. military forces in the Caribbean, and the reactivation of the Fourth Imperial Fleet.

2. Sure glad you reposted this, magbana. It cleared up my view of what I feared the guy had written.
His last paragraph is worth some thought:
The correct analysis of the merits and fallacies of Washington’s hypothesis is vital for Latin America. One would hope that Latin America’s state and popular leaders are up to the task at this dangerous juncture. Because the general success of Washington’s master plan, despite its partial defeats, shows the terrible price that we would have to pay for triumphalism and underestimation of this bestial enemy.
I hope South America will be up to the challenge. They have been tried by fire, and with any luck at all, they have learned well the lessons from their shared past.

I hope they will be prepared this time.

Thank you for clearing up the mystery around his article. I have seen it headlined at El Universal in such a way it appeared someone was saying the US had simply gotten the best of Chavez, that Chavez was "checkmated." I didn't bother to read their article, as I despise the thought of using my precious time to hear what crap they're spewing. I just saw their headline, and
passed by it.

Now I see there's a LARGER reference to consider than the angle they appear to be trying to push over on people.
