1. Actively promote Latin American peace, cooperation and unity in opposition to U.S./western "divide and conquer."
2. Actively promote world peace and social justice in opposition to U.S./western war-mongering, bullying and exploitation.
3. Actively join with, and BACKUP, other Latin American leaders, as Lula did (esp. re Chavez/Venezuela, Morales/Bolivia and Zelaya/Honduras) in the common cause of Latin American sovereignty, self-rule, democracy and social justice.
4. Seek common ground with "global south" leaders who are under U.S. threat of war, such as Ahmedinejad/Iran, and actively seek peaceful solutions.
Lula da Silva's foreign policy, based in part on monthly meetings with Chavez, was brilliant and visionary, for it recognized the HUMONGOUS waste of resources of U.S./western "wars" (war on Iraq, war on Afghanistan, war on drugs), the affliction in the "global south" (Latin America, Africa, Middle East, Asia) of U.S./western "divide and conquer" and the necessity of world peace as the premise for a prosperous, democratic Latin America. These polices distinguished Lula da Silva from any ordinary Workers Party leader or president. Dilma Rousseff has the potential to be as a great a leader as da Silva. I hope she realizes her potential.
I've seen some idiotic RW comments here at DU, that said they "like" Lula da Silva (as opposed to bogeyman Chavez). I wondered, in reading these comments, if they were following a CIA ("divide and conquer") script. In any case, they either didn't know--or knew quite well and were deliberately ignoring the fact that--Lula met frequently with Chavez and they were in close accord, including even on some domestic policy (for instance, Lula followed Chavez's example in insisting on Brazilian control of Brazil's new oil find, and use of the profits to benefit the poor). But even more importantly, Lula and Chavez were in accord on regional and global policy, and were a tremendously positive influence in Latin America, as to inspiring and supporting leftist democracy revolutions in additional countries, and also inspiring Latin America's leaders to see themselves in a new way--as collectively strong, as able to defend their sovereignty and their people if they stick together.
The corpo-fascist press--the Associate Pukes, et al (and rags like The Economyst)--have promoted this utterly stupid notion that Brazil was some kind of "free market" miracle that the "west" could approve of. But Brazil's prosperity is based on WORKERS' RIGHTS and on bootstrapping the poor, principles that its government has developed and held IN COMMON WITH Chavez and other new left leaders. Thus, the corpo-fascist press has seemed like "deer caught in the headlights" when Lula did something like invite Ahmedinejad to Brazil and travel to Turkey and Iran to devise a peaceful solution re Iran's fissionable material. But "deer" they are not. They are propagandists and don't allow facts to get in the way of U.S./western corporate/war profiteer designs.
