If I may Request one thing Till Tuesday's Election
Edited on Sun Jan-17-10 08:56 AM by FrenchieCat
To those who might be thinking about it,
please refrain from discouraging those of us
working to better this country.

If we want to be demoralized,
we know where to go,
and it isn't supposed to be here.

Last I checked, Democratic Underground is supposed to be about
working hard for Democratic wins,
not about promoting Democratic loses,
and certainly not projecting a loss,
in a TIGHT race.

DU RULES

You are not permitted to use this message board to work for the defeat of the Democratic Party nominee for any political office. If you wish to work for the defeat of any Democratic candidate in any General Election, then you are welcome to use someone else's bandwidth on some other website.

Democratic Underground may not be used for political, partisan, or advocacy activity by supporters of any political party or candidate other than the Democratic Party or Democratic candidates. Supporters of certain other political parties may use Democratic Underground for limited partisan activities in political races where there is no Democratic Party candidate.

Do not post broad-brush smears against Democrats or the Democratic Party.

Since we are only two days away from a general election...
Please save your analysis, and your eulogy for this Senate Seat
till then.

In addition, if you can find something negative to post about Candidate Brown,
that would be deeply appreciated it....or at least Rec those Threads that do.

THANK YOU!

54. The 11th commandment (Ronald Reagan)
The Eleventh Commandment was a phrase used by former President of the United States Ronald Reagan during his 1966 campaign for Governor of California. The Commandment reads:
"Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican."

39. That's not what Frenchie is saying.
She's not talking about honest analysis of the race; she's talking about people on this board (and yes, there ARE some) who are actively hoping that Coakley loses just so they can be proven "right" in their negativity.

She also didn't say anything about blindly working for the party.

Come on, cali; you're better than this.

that coakley had run a lousy campaign and alerted on it. of course my op wasn't locked. I very much hope coakley wins. I very much fear she won't and yes, I think losing a freakin' 25 point lead in under three weeks reflects poorly on the candidate.

7. At what point in time..
.. did facing reality become a unacceptable part of discussion? I'm fairly new here, and I find it somewhat disturbing to see the tactic of cognitive dissonance being used as a tool to retard open dialog.

You can certainly pretend that many lifelong Democrats aren't being dissed and ignored, if that pleases you. Perhaps you can also have us tossed from this site, because our opinions, goals and expectations aren't your own. You can try to browbeat us into submitting to your will and fool yourself into believing that "you have nowhere else to go" is a viable political strategy. You can put your fingers in your ears and yell "LA LA LA LA LA... I don't hear you... LA LA LA LA..." If all of that makes you "feel better" and all "victorious"... well good on you.

I tend to be much more reality based myself. There is a very good reason this seat is even in play, AT ALL for the Repukes, but since you would rather not discuss that... I leave you in peace.

16. Believe me you are not ignored
Psychology does play a part in things like this - a hopeful and positive attitude works, but the default for people is to be negative, so it's work to stay positive, so negative people can have a negative effect. If you want a Senator like brown, good luck with that. Are you putting your fingers in your ears and singing LALALALA I don't' want to hear that this teabagger will in fact vote against anything that helps other people?

10. As someone who has been in the trenches..off year elections are tough on Democrats
Your request is a very fair thing to ask.

Locally, our Democratic base are working people, and working age people, who have a hard time trying to get into vote.. so the off years can seem in the pocket of the republicans, when it is just a matter of logistics and quite frankly.. positive feedback

Some of our people will let the vote slide, if they get the message it will not count anyway because of polls and media, and quite frankly some sad sacks who just are committed to having us lose.

So calling banks like you are doing Frenchie, are just the ticket.

Especially if you have the cell phones.. land lines tend to be the retired, and it is for the MA Democrats, time to knock on doors.

12. Scott Brown is a robo bigot of the first order
As I said yesterday, I don't know much about Martha, nor do I need to. I do not like the Senate 'reform' bill at all, but that has nothing to do with Martha, nor with how vile Scott Brown is. If I lived in MA, it would be a breeze to vote against Scott Brown, so I don't even have to ask if I feel like voting for Martha, voting against the prejudiced and gaseous Mr Brown would be plenty for me if I lived there. He is the sort of Republican that makes voting for Democrats worthwhile, even if the Democrat is not my favorite sort. Martha, don't know, she is not a bigot, that much I know, and she's not a Republican. And moreover, she is not Scott Brown.
A Democrat running against Brown might lose my vote by kicking my elderly mother for fun, but that is a maybe. I'd probably still cast the vote, Brown is that bad.
So like I said yesterday, if I lived there, she get my vote, but I'd clearly be saying it did not mean I like any particular bill. It is also not about other politicians. It is about Martha and Scott. It is about preventing Scott Brown from dragging the Senate down into the gutter more than it already is.
I like it when Democrats can focus on defeating a bigoted bit of political desperation like Brown. Much more fun than quibbling.
I also think Martha will win. But only if we work like mad and take nothing for granted, ever again!

If you don't like something you read, then stop reading it.

If you can't accept that others have opinions that differ from yours, stop reading posts here. Put on Ignore everyone whose opinion offends you. That way, no one will be making you sad.

Those who have worked in a real campaign know that any time we are getting our asses kicked, we have to ask "why?" We have to ask "what can we do differently to win?" Knowing where your candidate is losing votes and why is essential to correcting the problem and winning the race.

50. An observation, albeit this should be common knowledge...
I watch politics pretty closely...and being out here in Nebraska, I have my own problems w/a D senator. What I see tough, is a lot of people from all over the country, trying to tell MA voters how to vote. I find this interesting, and don't really have anything against it, but how could I, being in NE effect the election in MA?

Same thing goes for those posting "against" a D on this site...if you're in WY, NM, NE, CA, or anywhere but MA...why would you try to influence an election against a D in MA?

What I do know, is that if Coakley loses, we lose a seat in the Senate to an R. I worked very hard to get Ben Nelson re-elected, I'm certainly not overjoyed w/him, but the alternative was far worse. The same thing goes in MA.

My thanks goes out to all those in MA that have hit the phones, streets, knocked on doors and have been in the ranks to keep the seat D. I am hoping that your efforts have been effective and since I can't vote in your election, I am hoping that you get D's out in force and crush Brown. I realize that no one can replace Ted...but I don't want to see some chiselbutted R in his seat...that would be a tragedy beyond comprehension.

Good Luck out there...and keep up the good work, the stakes are enormous!

:patriot:

51. This is a POLITICAL DISCUSSION BOARD, last I checked.
It is a place for ADULTS to discuss political topics.

This Mass story is the number one story in the national politics right now, and to expect people to keep it all "happy shiny flowers" is just ridiculous.

I admire and support those who are trying to make a difference and save the day up in my home state.

But this race should NEVER have become this close, and no matter how it plays out, we have a lot to think about its consequences for the rest of the year.

If you can't stand the heat....
