White House releases state dinner guest list
By Tony Romm - 11/24/09 05:49 PM ET

The White House just released its full guest list for tonight's state dinner with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh -- the first such event President Barack Obama has hosted.

Some interesting invitees on first glance: Hollywood director M. Night Shyamalan and producer Steven Spielberg, Nobel Prize recipient Dr. Amartya Sen, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka and journalist Fareed Zazaria

6. Congrats to the president for holding 1st state dinner for the
largest democracy in the world, India. It is a stable democracy
for 63 years and counting without a single military coup. And
now that the Indians have discovered capitalism, their economy is
expanding at 8-10% per year. Nehru's socialism kept India poor for
all those years.

15. Nehru's socialism
another revision of history,it wasn't Nehru's socialism that kept India poor for all those years, its was the western criminals that stole and raped India of its natural resources that caused most if not all of the problems in that area of the world.

16. Not true. The westerners were long gone after 1947

It was the half a dozen 5 year plans of Nehru, a copy of the Soviet model,
which prevented wealth creation.

A partial list of institutions directly owned and run by government of India during Nehru regime:

Banks
Insurance companies
Railroad..(chief mode of inter city travel in India)
Air Transport (IAL)
Cement manufacture
Steel manufacture
Power generation
Telephone manufacture (ITT)
Machine Tools manufacture (HMT)
Hospitals

Every one of these institutions was full of nepotism, corruption, inefficiency, bureaucracy, red tape.

India was transformed after many decades of rule by Nehru's congress party lost election
to the BJP who began privatization.

Today the Indian economy is experiencing 7-8% growth and private businesses are popping up
everywhere like mushrooms after a rainstorm.

Kalpen Modi, Associate Director, Office of Public Engagement

Too bad John Cho couldn't join him:

They should close GITMO now so Harold can join him for dinner.
