An attorney who once sued heavy metal band Judas Priest is running to take on Rep. Dean Heller (R-Nev.) next year.
Ken McKenna of Reno, Nev. announced Friday he was running for Nevada's 2nd District seat, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported.
McKenna, a personal injury and criminal defense attorney, made a name for himself in the 1990s by representing a Nevada family whose son committed suicide in 1985 after listening to a Judas Priest album. The civil suit was ultimately unsuccessful.
McKenna was elected to the state Board of Education Nov. 4.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has not had contact with McKenna and has higher esteem for Jack Schofield, a former Nevada assemblyman and senator in the 1970s. The great-grandfather now sits on the Board of Regents of the Nevada System of Higher Education.
The 2nd District is not, however, a top 2010 target for Democrats at this point, given Heller's popularity and rising profile in Congress.
