Caterpillar recalling 100 workers to Lafayette plant (Indiana)
May not seem like much, but after months on end of bad news on the jobs front, this is welcomed news indeed! Let's hope it is the beginning of a job recovery.

Caterpillar recalling 100 workers to Lafayette plant

Updated: Feb 17, 2010 12:12 PM EST

Lafayette - Caterpillar Inc. is recalling about 100 workers to jobs at its Large Engine Center in Lafayette.

Those returning to work are among about 450 people laid off from the factory in May. Company spokesman Jim Dugan says the worker recalls are being phased in through early March.

Dugan says the recalls come because of an increase in demand for the company's engines after very low levels last year.

3. Great news! More than half its business is exports.
"Caterpillar Inc., the world's largest maker of construction and mining equipment, said last month that it expected its sales will rise as much as 25 percent this year. Caterpillar generates more than 60 percent of its sales overseas and it is forecasting strong growth to come from developing countries including China and India."
