Things are getting better
I think a lot of you don't appreciate that.

1. Tell that to GLBT that want to get married.
Or serve without fear in the armed services. Make sure you get the meme to the prisoners in Gitmo who may be there the rest of their lives without trial.

Make sure you send a note to the 46000 people who will die this year because of lack of health care and while you're at it, tell the folks that lost unemployment with no hope of good jobs on the horizon.

7. You can work for change and still live in gratitude.
You ol' gloomy Gus, you.

3. I think a lot of us are shell-shocked
We're afraid to believe things are actually getting better because we've believed it so many times before only to be kicked in the face while we're looking up.

Give us a little time to accept it.

8. Hang in there. MLK said, "The moral arc of the universe is long but it bends toward justice"
I believe that, but you have to take the long view to see it.

4. Define 'things'...
What exactly is getting better?

I dont see anything getting better, I see it all getting much, much worse. But then I work at a company (IBM) that is about to layoff another 8k-10k US employees, so my attitude may be a little skewed.

9. You know.... stuff.
Living in gratitude is difficult when you're on the down cycle, to be sure. You have my sympathies. Getting laid off, if your number comes up, can be a serious trauma. But it is also an opportunity--even if it's not one without trade offs.

I think you also have a number of resources available to you that you wouldn't have had under similar lay offs 20 or 30 years ago. The world, the economy, is changing, always changing. If that change hits you, it'll be a terrible body blow, but I guarantee you'll have many opportunities to learn lots of practical new things while all the shit is going on.

And fortunately you're in a good position to go on unemployment, which, while sucky in many ways, is also something my grandparents didn't have when they faced down a bigger economic clusterfuck than what we're under. You have your health, your skills, your family, and your ability to expand your knowledge of what possibilities might be out there for you. Even without whatever money you have, you sound like a pretty rich person to me.

Are we supposed to guess?

You're supposed to project. It's what the GD board does best.

12. Nice try Bucky.
 Don't mean to chuckle, but ... Can't help myself.

A bit masochistic, hunh. LOL. I do it too sometimes. Then I wonder why I bother.
