Massey to drop Congressional bid
It’s been a long time coming, but word spread on Tuesday that State Sen. Shane Massey (R-Edgefield) was dropping out of the race for South Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District.

According to the Garnet Spy blog, Massey will be withdrawing from the Upstate race with a formal announcement coming in the next few days.

This development had been expected for months now, as Massey’s anemic fundraising — $845 in the final quarter of 2009 — left him with barely enough money to run for president of his homeowner’s association.

Massey’s departure does very little to change the dynamics of the 3rd District race. State Reps. Rex Rice and Jeff Duncan will continue to battle it out in a two-man race for the GOP nomination, with the winner likely to coast to victory in November.
