Read-out On the President's Briefing with BP (5/30)
Robert Gibbs readout of Obama's briefing call today with National Incident Commander Adm. Thad Allen and Assistant to the President for Energy and Climate Change Policy Carol Browner:

“Today, the president was briefed by the National Incident Commander Adm. Thad Allen and Assistant to the President for Energy and Climate Change Policy Carol Browner regarding the ongoing efforts to contain the BP oil spill.

He was informed that skimming, dispersing and burn operations continue with eight controlled burns yesterday.

He was also updated on BP's efforts to begin to put cutting machines into place that will be used to cut the riser pipe for placement of an alternate containment device. According to BP, the riser cutting will likely start Monday or Tuesday.

They also discussed the fact that the flow rate could increase as much as 20 percent until the containment device is applied over the leak.

Adm. Allen indicated that, as per the president's direction, government and contractor resources in areas affected by oil will be tripled. He also indicated that officials on the ground have increased efforts to be more responsive to needs identified by local communities.”

1. Seems like the media wants to portray Obama as "not caring" by not letting us know
he gets briefed during his vacation and is in touch with what's going on.

4. Dozens of New Oil Drilling Permits Issued Since The Catastrophe Began
Almost all with environmental review waived.

The "moratorium" is bogus:

2. What I want to know is...
... why did it take me reading Politico ... and a statement released by the WH to learn that THIS: "He was informed that skimming, dispersing and burn operations continue with eight controlled burns yesterday" is happening? Why am I not hearing that on CNN?

3. CNN and the others are way too busy pushing the line that Obama isn't engaged
in the process-that he "got the photo-op he wanted of picking up tarballs," etc. :eyes:

9. That's right...
they expect him to be the opposite of who he was-who we elected. They want him to be a phony, have a "bullhorn moment." I heard that from way too many TV pundits/commentators-Chris Matthews, Rick Sanchez, Bill Maher, David Bonior, Charles Blow, Eugene Robinson, and on and on.
