Statement by...Al Gore on President Obama's Oval Office Address on the Gulf Oil Disaster
Edited on Tue Jun-15-10 08:52 PM by ProSense
Statement by Alliance for Climate Protection Chairman Al Gore on President Obama's Oval Office Address on the Gulf Oil Disaster

"I applaud President Obama's call for a comprehensive legislative solution to the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. The oil gusher is just the latest and most tragic reminder of the environmental, economic and human consequences of our addiction to oil and other dirty sources of energy. The President is right to focus on stopping the spill and working to limit, to the degree possible, its impact on the Gulf ecosystem. But ultimately the only way to prevent this type of tragedy from happening again is to fundamentally change how we power our economy. Placing a limit on global warming pollution and accelerating the deployment of clean energy technologies is the only truly effective long-term solution to this crisis. Now it is time for the Senate to act. In the midst of the greatest environmental disaster in our country's history, there is no excuse to do otherwise."

1. Sounds pretty supportive to me
But then again we do still have a handful Naderite granola munchers around here who still think Al Gore is a "corporatist".

2. Yes, the time is now. Not about a President and his speech but about doing something
about investing in clean energy.

9. Where in the hell did you ever get that idea?
According to some DUers - Obama should be able to fix the oil spill with a glare and open his almighty mouth and the world will be made whole and the lion will lay down with the lamb - with just a word if he only cared. The fact that all is not right with the world simply means Obama doesn't care

12. No it means taking a step back, stop trying to please the RW
No deep water drilling, (why deplete the last of our oil) save it. 10 years from now when we have no oil, whose Mercy are we at? More investment in solar -wind. Why is the oil industry writing the laws and regulations? Step back! Ask why they pay no Taxes?
