Obama can use the firing of Sherrod
to attack the right-wing distorted, lying media and how harmful it is. They should also reinstate her and make a big, huge deal of it. Go off the defensive and on the offensive. Turn it around rather than be embarrassed. go on the attack and turn a lemon into lemonade.

5. It is a perfect example of how they
lie to manipulate public opinion. They edit the tape and then attack. Dems need to call them out on the process of what they do not so much get stuck in defending the content. The GOP machine always distorts the story, keeping a nugget of truth to make it plausible, but creating a completely false narrative to serve their ends. this story is a perfect example and should be milked by our side as a teachable moment. Let the public see they are being mercilessly manipulated and lied to.

3. At the same time point out how Fox libeled Acorn
Most people don't know that the videos had been edited and misrepresented the Acorn workers.
People here know but the general public does not.

6. Exactly, Acorn is another example
The process needs to be made crystal clear. We are always put on the defensive but no one is listening. We need to attack.

4. "Rather than be embarrassed"? They SHOULD be embarrassed! They should be ashamed!
They swallowed Breitbart's stinking bait hook, line and sinker, and now they are pretending it tastes good.

That is the epitome of cowardice.

7. They should be embarrased,
and so should you!

You are doing exactly what Breithart calculated...
so you fell for it bait hook, line and sinker too,
and you are now pretending that it tastes good too!

12. Especially since she was doing exactly the kind of thoughtful examination of
the ways in which racism affects all of us that Barack Obama said he wants Americans to do.

She should be lauded, not fired.

13. Who fired her without an investigation?
Breitbart? The NAACP?

Who fired her based on abogus report from a racist source?

Ms. Sherrod should be reinstated with apologies from the people who like to reach across the aisle and extend a hand of friendship just to have it severed off, again, by gop.

There's no excuse for this firing. There was no excuse for throwing ACORN under the bus either.

The buck stops, where?

Rush should be pulled from Armed Forces Radio.

They should say there is no tolerance for lying and misrepresentations and have the thousand Rush quotes at hand.

15. I completely agree...
This could be a great opportunity to turn the tables on those who smear via hate filled distortions and the damage done when acting before the full facts are known. It is also an opportunity to highlight how Ms. Sherrod is a great example of someone who grew from her experiences and went from being one with a narrow perspective to a person who understood that those in need of help should be helped and race is irrelevant to the issue. She is someone to be admired, imo.

19. Acorn, Van Jones, the hits keep coming
and the idiots in DC keep falling for it. They should be chagrined, and feel like fools. They need to apologize to the wronged parties, all of them, they need to castigate the guilty, and to do otherwise is unacceptable. Enough of this. Enough. Are they really that simple minded?

The White House official told Ben Smith that "The White House backs Vilsack's decision"

25. The White House really has no choice.
The repub would see that as a division, a crack and drive a wedge in. They would see it as Obama not being in control. Obama appointed Visack.
No matter how wrong, it is a done deal.

24. Agree ... the WH house can claim it "trusted" Fox ... but can no longer do so ...
Its a very simple argument ...

They have tried to treat Fox as a "real" source of facts ... this event no longer allows them to do so.

Put Fox on the defense ... and you can bet that the other media outlets will come like sharks into the bloody water.

Force every show on Fox to defend its claims individually ... at every level. They can't defend this.

There's enough shows in the Jerkoffs-Yelling-At-Each-Other-About-Politics genre on the cable news networks to ensure that the Presidents ultimate reaction to this incident will be well known and discussed.

32. Replace "can" with "is obligated to"
Edited on Wed Jul-21-10 12:42 AM by Telly Savalas
If the White House doesn't own up to its mistake, rehire Sherrod, and go on the offensive, it will only embolden jackasses who wish to propagate bullshit. The Obama administration needs to hold itself and Fox News accountable for letting "silly season" (as Obama calls it) dominate the political discourse and decision making.

I'll be very surprised and even more disappointed if this doesn't happen.
