Tim Kaine, DNC...please don't send me "Mailing Labels," with your Request for Donations, any more!
My latest request from the Democratic National Committee for a donation came with enclosed mailing labels. Remember those freebie mailing labels that all kinds of folks used to send years ago to get you to donate to their cause?

These labels had the cute little "Donkey Kick" avatar on them....but I would never use them. Why? Because I use e-mail more than regular mail and there's no way I want to send Birthday, Condolences, or Congratulations cards to friends and family with a "Democratic Avatar" under my address. They wouldn't appreciate my partisan political message and I would find it uncool to subject them to it. The folks I pay bills to are not interested in my political affiliation and those who would be interested, I would not want to know in these times of such partisan bickering and thuggish tactics by Tea Partiers and other Big Business interests.

What I really want to know, Tim, is why you spent money on those labels and who printed them for you? Anyone could have told you that spending money for such fluff in these hard times looks BAD...Really, BAD.

So, I hope that posting this message here on DU will get to you. I know that when I threw it all in the recycling you didn't notice, and since I didn't want to re-package package it all back and pay for the postage to return it.... recycling to the garbage seemed to be the best alternative.

Again, DNC and Tim Kaine! Please rethink your Donation Policies. Many others would be offended by receiving cutesy "Democratic Address Labels" in a donation letter at this time.

7. I use mine for bills, whatever--particularly the one that says, 'VOTE 2010.'
Edited on Mon Aug-02-10 03:36 PM by flpoljunkie
We have got to get our people out to vote! The R's are ahead again today in Gallup's generic Congressional polling 48-43--after the Dems were ahead two weeks in a row.

We must not let them take back the House!!!

13. Methinks it's due to all the negative publicity surrounding Rangel and Waters.
Edited on Mon Aug-02-10 04:55 PM by Liberal_Stalwart71
This is a daily tracking poll, right? It makes sense that this would happen.

Perhaps the preoccupation with all things race did it too. The Shirley Sherrod incident is still fresh in people's minds.

Rangel, Waters don't make things any easier for the Dems.

Coupled with that the fact that Aghanistan is not going well.

Republicans blocked small business help, unemployment insurance, help for 9/11 responders. And yet, the Democrats' numbers are going down? I wonder why? Again, preoccupation with race and now Rangel and Waters.

2. I get mailing labels from nonprofits I haven't even donated to.
They clearly don't cost anything to print or the nonprofits wouldn't send them free of charge to non donors.

10. It's a tried and true fundraising technique
People think "well, shit, if they sent me something they'll lose money if I don't send in a donation"

You get more donations if you send something, so it ends up paying for itself.

12. I recently phoned a list of organizations that had sent me
expensive mailers, with greeting cards, labels, cds, the works and told them that the way I could contribute was by being removed from their list. It bothers me to get 'feed the children' mailers that come with glossy inserts for the donors....

16. You need a strong cool drink.
I'm with "Shraby" - I use all the preprinted address labels I get because I still do use "snail mail" in addition to electronic technologies to communicate.
If you really believe that the donkey avatar address labels will intimidate or offend someone, don't use them on letters you send to that person. Frankly, the people I write to don't care one way or another either because they're happy to hear from me or because they are Democrats and don't find a donkey avatar intimidating.
In fact, I'd LOVE to send a donkey avatar on my letters to Repub Reps and Sens!

17. You are very lucky that the only folks you correspond with are Fellow Dems, Just Like You...
What you miss is that the rest of us live in the REAL WORLD...where we need to deal with people of all thoughts, creeds and viewpoints.

Obama has told us we need to be comprehensive in our views and accepting of all viewpoints.

So...what you said seems very narrow focused in how you live in your own small world...just populated by Democrats like you who enjoy seeing your Political Affiliation pushed in their faces.

LUCKY YOU! But, many of us live in a BIGGER TENT WORLD...we don't wish to put our Partisan Feelings into every Negotiation or Relationship...including where many of us have Families and Business Associates who really don't want a "Donkey in their Face.'

I think your view seems somewhat narrow for how we all need to deal with life these days...and even ignores the wishes of our President who has reached across the aisle to make the "Big Tent" even BIGGER for America's Growth in the future.

 Found your post kind of naive......

20. Interesting how you know nothing about me and find my post
"naive" when I probably know a lot more first-hand about living and working with all races, creeds, viewpoints and cultures than you may ever know about in your life. Look at my "name." I was born and raised in a "red" state - where I still maintain many close friendships, regardless of political affiliation, and where many family members still live. Because my family is an exceptionally extended one, believe me, everything from Teabaggers to Radical Left in included. Not one is "shunned" and we all still speak to each other. Add to that a life spent living and working productively and effectively - both in the developing world and Western Europe - for 24+ years, in addition to another 20+ years worth in the US. I obviously know nothing about the REAL WORLD. Nothing at all. Absolutely nothing.
Because I don't know anything about you, I don't make judgments about you. I just found your post a bit excitable. After all, a donkey can be a symbol for other things - some positive, some even religious, etc. And, if the labels offend you, just toss them.
But you didn't hesitate to judge me.
