Poll question: What hath Sarah wrought?
Edited on Tue Aug-03-10 08:39 AM by ChairmanAgnostic
There are signs that the "grassroots" Tea Bagger movement is breathing its last breaths. The Phili meeting was just the latest sign. Whether it was how Michelle Bachmann, Sarah, and others tried to take over the group and make them into better bitter republicans, who can tell? But, clearly, the Tea Baggers are not the huge political force imagined by Armey and others.

Even now, Sarah's followers can be put into two distinct groups.

a. a very small, highly directed, dedicated group of followers. Her twit-ter base, as it were. For the most part, they are older, white, clueless about politics, easily misled by conservative lies, and allergic to rational discussions.

b. Everyone else.

When you think about presidential politics, time is running short. Someone has to start making a move before November 2010, in order to position themselves for a realistic shot at the 2012 GOP nomination. So, who do you think will be the chosen one?

3. I marked other. I see Jan Brewer making a move for it.
Trying to see it from a twisted conservative point of view, I think 2012 was the only REAL reason behind her passing the "lets get dem Mexicans" law in Arizona.

She's also the only one I think I'd be at all concerned about when she does run. Apparently, going by polls at least, tapping into racial hatred is still a way to win support.

15. No Way. Her Nomination Would Turn Off An Entire Generation
of Latino voters to the Republicans. See California and Pete Wilson.

4. John Thune might be interested in the GOP nomination but
he'd have to stand on a primary debate stage with a good number of very embarrassing thieves, crazies, and nitwits to get it. Also there must be someone in Thune's inner circle who can read demographics which are indicating that President Obama's re-election percentages are pretty encouraging. It could be Thune will give in to Potomac Fever but not in 2012.

Which would leave the rest of the aforementioned thieves, crazies, and nitwits. Of which Romney has the most cash and Huck has the most charm, if you consider what he has to be 'charm.' But there are many obstacles for both those guys. For their alleged strengths (cash for Willard and charm for Huckabee), neither one of them could prevail against John McCain in 08, and McCain's campaign was about as poorly run as it could have been. A lot of fundies don't like Mormons no matter how fat the wallet, and Huckabee can't even order bumper stickers unless he raises some dough, and he's been traditionally resistant to fundraisers. It's no wonder a doddering old crank like McCain beat them both in 2008.

But what the hell -- I'm sure Michael Steele is devising a sure-thing strategy for the GOP. They can place their trust in Steele.

5. Romney
Has a massive war chest and has given money to support important republican candidates in all the key primary states. Most importantly, it's his turn - and in the republican tea party that's huge.

If you kicked him the nuts, would he feel it? Or would the magic underwear cushion the blow?

I'd like to try.

not much of a record to bash and not currently seen as a wacko. It will come down to him and Palin.

9. how much of a wacko is he?
I read about Bob Inglis who was pushed out of office by his fellow GOP wackjobs. If they removed such a decent man from their midst, that must mean the Thune is still approved of by the wackos themselves. Ergo, he shares wacko ideas.

I know nothing about Thune. What can you tell us?

19. If the GOP is aiming to overturn the 14th Amendment, Bobby has no chance.
He is an anchor baby. But then, hypocrisy has never stopped the GOP before.
