1. I do
I think he tries to hard to find compromise, and is too willing to give up ground on the left to appease the right. But overall I like the guy.

3. I used to like him when I thought he cared about working poor folks like myself
Now all I see is how much he is willing to compromise our needs to make rich people richer (all in the name of getting along with evil rather than opposing it)

Sorry, I just like to be honest.
I had hoped for so much more than being compromised away just for rich people that don't need help but get it anyway on our backs.

110. Likewise
He has a beautiful family and seems to be a likeable person, but it would be nothing short of miraculous if we see real, concrete, positive *Change we can believe in* from his presidency.

7. Of course I like and support this President......
most of the time....
but that's because I'm from the rational Left wing of the Democratic party;
and I already know what not supporting this President will bring...

So, yeah...I decided long ago when I was getting nothing I wanted under Bush,
that I'd rather have some of what I want,
than have to face getting all of what I don't want.
Cause I've been there, done that.

Edited on Fri Aug-06-10 01:44 PM by JuniperLea
With RWers and LWers heckling him from shore... that he is able to breath is a miracle. That 65% of us aren't standing in soup lines today is a miracle.

Considering the obstacles, the rhetoric, the bigotry, the greed, the hatred, he's doing pretty good. Considering the alternative, I love him. I can't think of one person on Earth, in any political party, who could have done more.

governmental ideologues ratified or continued or known criminals not prosecuted: I could have been made deliriously happy with even marginally progressive policies and actions including a sane fiscal policy, single payer, and a fair tax policy. :P

20. from north of the border...
President Obama was such a relief to the rest of the world that there is little choice rather than to wish him a long and successful TWO terms...

I read the disappointment in some posts and naturally I wish he would throw a few bones to his logical supporters, but damn I would not want his job. Trying to steer such a damaged craft between the Scylla of outraged conservatives and the Charbydis (sucking and blowing is the image I would graft in here) of the MSM. And whilst attempting that feat he has his own crew poking holes in the boat... yeah, not an enviable position.

30. I thank our heavenly GOD ALMIGHTY that we have Obama as President and NOT McCain
You think we're in trouble now???!@!!! We would be in a living hell had McCain gotten in. And in a war with Iran and probably N. Korea. Wake up, America. End your racism NOW! Obama is doing a FANTASTIC job considering what he is up against....the Party of "Not for anyone but themselves" for one thing. They have gone against everything Obama has tried to do for this country. Even voting against their own original policies. Vote the republicans OUT OF OUR GOVERNMENT NOW. We need good people in there that are willing to work. After all, WE are paying their salaries and benefits.

The tea party as represented by Sarah P would have found some way or another to induce a heart attack long before now, so I doubt that McCain would have really done much before they took over a royally fucked us all.

87. Do you really think people who are critical of Obama are simply racist?
Seriously? You know many of us may be far more liberal than you (or leftist as the case may be), and we may well have given plenty of money, phone banked, and walked door to door for Obama - as I did. But that is not going to blind me to the fact that he is continuing many of Bush's policies, especially in the area of defense.

Out of respect for the supporters who still believe I vowed to stay out of this thread, but your call of "racism" was nasty and wrong.

I think they are bitter that their particular issue has not been acted upon swiftly enough.

Do I think the Tea Party Patriots are simply racist?

90. That may be with some -
but I think you're seeing many supporters who are upset with many policies, not just a pet issue.

As for the tea party folks, racism may be a component, and it's certainly encouraged by the wealthy who are bank-rolling that operation. Can't really argue with that.

Edited on Sat Aug-07-10 02:39 AM by old mark
I realise that much of what I dislike about him is just his more conservative approach, and that he is probably just being a practical politician in this idiot nation in which we live.

80. I like Obama as a person. I wish he were accomplishing a lot more
especially on the economy. He has the ability to speak truth to power but somehow he is not using it when it comes to Wall Street.

He is really beholden to Goldman Sachs and the bankers. He is afraid to rock the boat. And, sorry, but right now our boat needs a lot of rocking.

92. This would be close to my assessment as well.
I don't think I'd personally dislike the guy if I met him, but he really had an opportunity here to help people (ala FDR) and he's blown it.

85. OMFG, yes! K&R! He's totally hot, and even-tempered, did all that cool community organizing the Rs
despise so much because he was helping poor folk and black folk, and worst of all poor black folk.

But the Rs are mostly sleazy, slimy, money grubbing hypocrites. I don't know how they can hate Obama. Whenever he flashes that big, beautiful smile, I...I...well, I almost forget how disappointed I am with his failure to get out there and really speak power to truth and to crush those effing TeaBaggers under the very Constitution they claim he knows nothing about.

And with the way he's done so very little to reverse the trend toward the top 2% of (are they even all) Americans(?)controlling 99.9% of our nation's wealth, it's getting kind of hard to believe that he even *wants* to help us in the poor and middle classes. And I don't like his got-dayum gay-bashing minister friends, his middle-of-the-road-or-worse Supreme Court nominees, and his America-hating, health-food-and-exercise-pushin' wife.

OK, that last thing was a lie. I *love* Michelle.

And I think might even still love Obama. But do I like him?

Let's just say I'm mad at him right now. But I hope we can eventually kiss and make up.

greatest page. Shame on you. Of course we "like" our President. That has little to do with the fact that he is a corporatist and most, not all, of his policies are for big corporations.

95. Yes ,smart , open minded and more !
Of course anything after eight years of the last non-President would be a big step forward. However with Obama we ave the bonus of a really great mind. Iamm sure he is frustrated at the way Washington works and doing his best to get something moving forward ! Imaging if we could have went from a President Clinton (Bill) straight to a President Obama instead of eight years of waste and corruption ?

104. Could be doing a whole lot worse, but...
could (and should) be doing a whole lot better. All in all, I am very disappointed in him and would really like to see the Dems run a strong alternative candidate against him in the upcoming primary, though I don't expect to see that happen. Infinitely better than McCain/Palin would have been, but is that really all we expected from him?

and I only say 'almost' in reference to the 'helluva lot' part of it.

and by 'alternatives' I mean anyone who stood at least a remote chance of getting elected in this insane country that would let George W Bush be president and even consider Sarah Palin to be a heartbeat away.

127. President Obama Is Doing The Best Job Possible Given The Circumstances
And for the people of the so-called left to use DU and other blog sites to continually pound him just goes to show how ignorant, empty, and devoid of any logic the Progressive left is in this country.

The only fucking thing that the American Progressive Left does is bitch, whine, moan, and complain.
