The Repeal the 14th Amdt crowd doesn't realize they're targeting WHITE FOLKS!
?
The anti-Hispanic hatefest that drives much of the immigration debate has obscured an important fact: a significant portion of illegal immigration is not movement from Mexico but the result of people who came here legally overstaying their visas. Of course, many of those folks are middle and upper class white Europeans, so they are rarely factored into the discussions.

But the people who are now demanding that the 14th Amendment be selectively "revised" need to be reminded that their gambit would wreak havoc, not only on Hispanics, but on the white folks they think are "good" immigrants.

For example, imagine the university professor or scientist or business person who gives birth to a child while they are in this country on an expired visa . . .

I'll bet they haven't even thought of that since they seem to be so completely obsessed with the brown people they so vociferously demonize that they haven't even considered the. Broader ramifications of their misguided effort.

5. All the best to Michelle M., where ever she may land, but, Michelle: go, just go as in now,
pronto, right away, and, for God's sake, don't let the door nail you in the ass on the way out :P

2. They really don't care about the immigration part of this debate
Edited on Mon Aug-09-10 04:41 PM by Merlot
They want to turn everything back to states rights - that's their true reason for overturning 14th amendment.

If they were really concerned about putting an end to "anchor babies" they could do it with a supreme court ruling.

4. I still believe this is more about the Due Process and Equal Protection clauses
than "anchor babies."
