Lamont Concedes to Malloy: Sources (Connecticut governor primary)
Edited on Tue Aug-10-10 09:00 PM by oberliner
Ned Lamont has conceded the Democratic race for governor, sources tell NBC Connecticut.

With the concession, former Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy takes the nomination from the better funded candidate,

Somewhat surprising result, isn't it?

1. Not totally. I voted for Lamont but Malloy was catching up and only 3 points behind in the last
Quinnipiac poll. He is the Mayor of Stamford and that experience might have helped him. Honestly, I did not make my mind until two weeks ago.

2. This frees Lamont to run against Lieberman in 2012
Who knows?

4. Yes, it does. Although my rep Chris Murphy has been mentioned as a possibility as well.
He is only in his late 30's and may be a good contrast against Holy Joe.

7. Murphy would be a better candidate for the party to run than Lamont at this point.

9. I totally agree. He is a popular, likable guy and is very clean. Plus, he has the younger voters.
He actually lives in Cheshire, where I grew up. I liked Lamont and voted for him but I really, really like Murphy.

11. LOL! Yes, anyone but old Joe. Maybe he will do everyone a favor and just retire.

6. I hope not--I hope dems get a stronger candidate to go up against Lieberman
This is two defeats for Lamont--we need a stronger candidate than Lamont, I believe.

13. I read something in th NY Times about Lamont
It wasn't good!

Lamont Moves to Center in Connecticut Race

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/09/nyregion/09lamont.html?_r=1&ref=nyregion

As Mr. Lamont gears up for the Democratic primary for governor on Tuesday, progressives are grumbling that he has talked too much about tax breaks and streamlining red tape, and not enough about issues dear to labor unions and government watchdogs.

- more -

And some bloggers who had thrown themselves behind Mr. Lamont’s Senate bid have been lukewarm or indifferent. When Mr. Lamont announced his candidacy in February, using the word “business” more than a dozen times in his speech, My Left Nutmeg, a liberal Web site, ran the headline: “Ned Lamont announces for Governor.”

- more -

“I think there’s some disappointment among liberals — you don’t feel the energy for Lamont the way you certainly felt it in 2006,” said Kenneth Dautrich, a public policy professor at the University of Connecticut. “His stay-to-the-middle positions have been: let’s make smart investments in education, let’s help small business. Many of those are moderate-to-conservative types of positions.”

Are there any heroes left, besides at the sandwich shop?

3. How do his chances look in the general election?
Looks like Foley is going to win the Republican primary. Is that going to be a tough race?

8. He polled ahead of Foley in the Aug 6th Quinnipiac poll, as did Lamont. He needs money though.
I plan on donating to him. Lamont was a millionaire.

Here was the #'s of Malloy vs Foley on Aug 6th:
If the 2010 election for Governor were being held today, and the candidates were Dan Malloy the Democrat and Tom Foley the Republican, for whom would you vote?

5. Ned started strongly in the polls but in recent weeks Malloy gained a great deal of ground
so the momentum was with Malloy.

12. I voted for Malloy, but expected Lamont to win
I had voted for Lamont twice in the past (primary and general election 06) but liked a few things about Malloy better for this race. Now we just need to kick some ass.
