No one wants to be accused of getting a shiver up his/her leg.....
Edited on Wed Aug-11-10 12:22 AM by FrenchieCat
Like Chris Matthews did.
No one wants to be alleged as being "in the tank for Obama",
the way most news organizations were accused of being all throughout the campaign.
Many believe that will muse up their hard earned "Credentials" as the impartial
judge and jury...

just like the "Liberal" media isn't really Liberal,
and they go out of their way to prove it daily,
the Professional Left don't like highlighting the positive stuff done
from a Democratic Administration because hey....they ain't in the tank,
and plus, old habits die hard. No one wants to read about positivity,
when cynicism, doubt and suspicion always make for a more exciting read!

They can criticize plenty, but they don't have the time to do much more than
minimizing as a "given" the positive.

It's their way of playing "Neutral".

Why not omit, twist, leave out the nuance and simplify every topic?
Hell, the Mainstream media does it, and they never pay any consequences for it.

That's why it is hard to find anyone anywhere ever praising Pres. Obama
for anything. Folks don't want to be accused of being Fans, Cheerleaders,
apologist and the likes. Words that have been used by the Left against their
own since January 2009.

Praising President Obama is not the "In" thing.....
no matter the topic.

You know, him and his pretty speeches, his cool attitude and
his good looks. isn't that enough?

But dogging him out, well, that's another matter, and if you're good at it,
you might even get on the TV! Just Ask Cenk!
Paul Krugman tried it, then felt used by the media for it.

Meanwhile, the Republicans get a towfer....
they get to lie and exaggerate about this administration
every which way, and instead of defenders from the left
rising to the moment, the Left are too busy making their own Critique
against this administration to notice.

So what gets left out in most of the reporting by Professionals,
on television, the Internet and newspaper alike? All of the positive.

and then comes election times, folks will be pointing fingers as to why
folks were less than "enthusiastic" and let the Republicans win by staying
their asses home feeling down and out.

But if many voices state over and over again what's gonna happen,
then eventually that's exactly what happens.
What's that called again? that theory?

4. The more he compromises
The more complaints there will be. He gives up too much on too many policies to people who only care about making sure he fails. Enough is enough. Don't want the criticism? Then deliver the REAL change we were all hoping for. Stop letting the GOP walk all over him.

23. We knew that is how it would be when he decided to run.
He has to be squeaky clean and essentially flawless. He shouldn't have to be, but we all knew he would be judged harder than he should be; including himself. That is why it baffles me to see him making so many compromises. It just makes him look weak. Unfortunately I have way too many right wing friends. They all say they would feel better about him if he would just take control and stop compromising.

34. So... you're providing an assload of links that provide evidence of Obama's failures...
to prove that the evidence is faulty?

Am I getting this right?

So... one second, still trying to get my head around this... so— the evidence and evidentiary support is all faulty, because ... it supports an assertion you don't like? —err, I mean an assertion that you do not accept (despite evidence, and apparently with no sense of urgency to provide counter-evidence of your own????).

How is this different than Palin assertions that it is Obama's fault that the BP oil platform started leaking? I mean, all the evidence pointed to a contrary conclusion, but Palin never-the-less came to the conclusion that she did... and all the "evidence" was simply evidence that the media and "evidentiaries" were biased against her "truth".

How is that different than what you are here asserting?

You say: "Praising President Obama is not the "In" thing....." - and then you post 22 links to what I presume are criticisms (I needed a membership to read the Chomsky one... alas)... and you still persist, despite the pile of supporting documentation you yourself provide... in pretending it's about "fashion"?, and completely unrelated to the 22 friggin' links you provide that question the merits of Obama's policies???

I think it might be time to take advantage of the Health Insurance you can currently afford... and talk to someone.

what's in style, and that's dumping on this President, cause they don't want to be accused of having gotten a shiver up their fucking leg, but you simply didn't get what I said, although everyone prior to you, obviously did.

See, old habits die hard.
Never a discussion of the good, which is why I have no links of such...

and of course, you must be right there with them,
not wanting to acknowledge anything positive.
But what else is new? At this point, that's what you are known for;
overwhelming negativity....cause I do believe that mean spirited folks
in the United States currently reign.

I don't need to play victim or even to rationalize why the Professional Left that
equate Obama to Bush now all of the sudden are 75% of DU members and are fucking outraged,
and indignant that anyone, and I mean anyone could throw shit at them, although that is
exactly what they fucking do all day long.

I've got the fact that folks just don't like this Pres, and that they wanted him to do everything
in a totally different way, and believe that if they were President,
everything would be exactly as they have imagined it.

I understand the superiority complex, the excessive hubris, and lack of humility that you mentioned earlier and how it manifest itselves in these "professionals"....as I think that it is they who feel so entitled and important that they can poo-poo 31 million Americans being able to see a doctor without going through an emergency room, or them thinking that students being able to borrow money at a cheaper price ain't nothing at all.

As long as the world was not remade entirely by August 10th, then there will be hell to pay.
I got it. Folks who want revenge as proof of their righteousness.....those are the folks who
really don't give a fuck about anything beyond their own ego, period....and you actually know it.

If you are trying to prove that Obama is NOT like Bush,
it doesn't help your case to post a ton of factual evidence demonstrating how Obama is continuing some of the worst Bush Policies.

Did you read the links you posted?

And a word of advice,
If you ever go to court, do not try to be your own lawyer.

knowledgeable and without reading i would probably agree with most..i was about to thank the op for the links when i actually noticed it was frenchie..twisted my mind for a second..thanks frenchie

the only one i think is flaky out of that list is chris matthews because he blows with the wind so i dont really believe anything he says..and he is always so certain to pronounce cheneys name correctly that i think there is something wierd about that as well..and he has tom delay..or used to . on his show way too often

58. They act like we are stupid and we don't hear what they say
We've been paying attention all along. Every two bit so-called Liberal blog has been flaming Obama since jump street because it gets them attention from the rest of the media. So essentially, they are selling out their own movement for personal gain.

these people think they have all the answers, when what they have is a few good policy ideas and no fucking clue how to get any of it into law.

until they figure out how to put 60 reliable Progressives in the Senate, they aren't going to get anything they want, and yet somehow they think the answer is NOT voting and beleaguering every Dem to make sure there are even less Dems in the Senate next year. It's like watching mentally ill people who complain constantly of being victimized and are at the same time always looking for new situations in which they can be victimized.

Victims don't win shit. When is that very vocal 10-15% of the Left gonna figure that out?

62. That's exactly the point
That principled 10 - 15% on the Left don't want to win shit. We've already had shit. We're still looking for change. Selling out, what Centrists call "being pragmatic," doesn't work for us.

As has been said over and over again: The lesser of two evils is still evil. The party that doesn't suck as much still sucks. And no vote is wasted that is cast by a person who can look themselves in the mirror the next morning.

entertaining, but I've found it here at DU.

Actually, I never thought about thinking about desperation being entertaining, but I'm seeing it here.

Come to think of it, I never thought I'd ever think of thinking about desperation being entertaining, but here I am doing it.

Fuck, while I'm at it, I never thought I'd ever think of thinking I'd think about desperation being entertaining, but by golly, here we are, and here I am.

Like Frenchie says... "Of course, there's more."

So I was thinking... Oh fuck it.

66. Well-wrtten post. But Obama's just facing an "equal and opposite reaction" --
This is just a counter-swing in the pendulum.

You write,

"Folks don't want to be accused of being Fans, Cheerleaders,
apologist and the likes. Words that have been used by the Left against their
own since January 2009.

Praising President Obama is not the "In" thing.....
no matter the topic."

But two years ago or so, there WERE fans and cheerleaders. There WERE tinglings in legs. Obama was suddenly the flavor of the month (if not year) and not just in politics, but in pop-culture as well -- he WAS the "In Thing".

Live by cool, die by cool. The resistance you see to him now, from various angles, is in great part simple embarassment over our collective crush of two years ago.

69. Thank you for the collection of Bush policies that Obama has continued.
I think you may have missed some, but you got a good bit of them.

Now, I don't think Obama equals Bush, but he has, undeniably, continued and expanded some of the worst of Bush's policies.

Recommend!

70. Too many on the Left are terminal malcontents
And they are cozy enough materially to weather the storm of another Republican Maladministration. Or two or three.

They would put their intellectual vanity before the need to incrementally improve this country for the people they profess to care so deeply about.

And, as your post reminds us, they are often completely full of shit.

83. In the words of my dead grandpa...
Edited on Thu Aug-12-10 10:53 PM by Chan790
"If everybody says you're a f*cking moron, you're probably a f*cking moron."

Likewise, if the people that voted for you have grown disenchanted and the people that championed your cause are calling you on your BS...you're probably not doing a bang-up job of it.

If Democrats get hammered in the midterms the blame lies with the defeated, the White House and the party leadership, not the voters. They simply can't blame the voters for rejecting what they deem to be "failure" by the metrics the electorate has decided upon. You can't shift the blame for failure to govern onto the electorate...it's ludicrous to even suggest that.

Personally, I vote for my issues, not the letter after your name. I have little respect for anybody who makes their electoral decisions otherwise.

Also, there is no dignity in being the President's unthinking cheerleader. We would call that "rooting for the laundry" where I grew up. It's not a good thing.

I was not aware that independents leaned heavily for McCain. Oh wait, they didn't.

Democrats are not the only ones who supported him then and they're not necessarily the ones he needs to be sweating now. He's lost support among non-democrats who supported him versus where he was just after the inauguration. That's certainly not an indicator of achieving change they believed in. That was before his moron of a Press Secretary alienated the activist-left wing of the party to top off this clusterfuck.

Democratic voices are not the only ones that matter. In fact, he can't win in 2012 if the only people that support him are the laundry rooters like you. So, if he wants a second term, he needs to do something different from what he's doing now because what the President is doing now, isn't working.
