GOP-sponsored poll says Zaun leads Boswell
A poll commissioned by the Polk County Republican Party shows GOP challenger Brad Zaun leading incumbent U.S. Rep. Leonard Boswell, a Democrat, by a 45 percent to 38 percent margin.

Zaun is a state senator and former Urbandale mayor who has touted his background as a former hardware store owner who can relate to small business owners. He now works in commercial real estate. Boswell is a farmer and retired U.S. Army helicopter pilot who was decorated for his combat service in the Vietnam War. He has served in Congress since 1997.

Grant Woodard, a spokesman for Boswell’s campaign, dismissed the GOP polling results as a blatant campaign tactic intended to make Zaun look good. He noted the poll was conducted by Victory Enterprises of Davenport, a political consulting firm linked to former Republican legislator Steve Grubbs.

“Let’s just say that it is a partisan poll by a partisan firm. It is no surprise that they would come out with a poll with essentially cooked up statistics. I am sure that if we wanted to I could find a political consulting firm somewhere that would say whatever I wanted them to say and release that as a press release,” Woodard said.
