I support Obama, except for his timidity at times
He showed such courage in defending the right to build a mosque near Ground Zero, but then he backs off. If he had more guts, we'd have a better health plan and our economy would already be in better shape. But, still, a liberal with even modest courage is much better for the U.S. than any kind of conservative.

Although his passionate defense of Muslim Americans' right to build a mosque in lower Manhattan was hailed by some as "one of the finest moments" of his presidency, President Barack Obama clarified his comments Saturday.

"My intention was simply to let people know what I thought, which was that in this country, we treat everybody equally and in accordance with the law, regardless of race, regardless of religion," Obama said during a visit to Florida Saturday. "I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there."

1. "The President is not backing off in any way"
Raw Story got this email too. Did they just choose not to share Burton's remarks?

"Just to be clear, the President is not backing off in any way from the comments he made last night.
It is not his role as President to pass judgment on every local project.

"But it is his responsibility to stand up for the Constitutional principle of religious freedom and equal treatment for all Americans.
What he said last night, and reaffirmed today, is that If a church, a synagogue or a Hindu temple can be built on a site, you simply cannot deny that right to those who want to build a Mosque.

"The World Trade Center site is hallowed ground, where 3000 Americans-Catholics, Protestants, Jews and Muslims were the victims of a cold-blooded massacre. We are still at war with the small band of terrorists who planned and executed that attack.
But that does not give government the right to deny law-abiding Americans of one faith the same rights you would accord anyone else."

2. Why does he have to comment on the RW's narrative about whether
or not it is "wise" to build there?

I do not always agree. I think he has made some strategic mistakes, I think he needs to move faster on DADT, ending wars overseas, taxing the rich, he should have had a public option that wiped out profiteering health insurance companies in 3 years.

But he's my President, we agree on more than we disagree and I like him even if he's not as perfect as I am. LOL
