1. This poll was conducted Jul 21-Aug 5 - so though it is new, it is older than some of the others

The trend is not good - but August is a weird month.

3. I agree with you on that

My point was that this was not a poll from the last few days - which would have been quite welcome, if it were.

I also think it might also be generally negative economic news. I wonder though how many of the new job losses early this month might have been state/local jobs cut because the Senate was not able until the last week in session to pass the bill with state aid. (Not to mention the summer jobs bill NEVER passed and so far TANF extension (it ends in Sept) has not passed. I wonder if the fact that it did then pass will lead to some people being called back - creating a blip in the right direction.

I also wonder if some in the position to hire might see a long term personal gain to the republicans winning - in terms of the estate tax and the Bush tax cuts.

I think its still all about jobs. When the job market gets better, Obama's numbers will too.
