Regina Thomas plans write-in vote for Congress but might be ineligible
Regina Thomas, who lost to Democratic U.S. Rep. John Barrow in the July 20 primary election, says she plans to run as a write-in candidate Nov. 2.

Thomas, a former state senator from Savannah, is pushing ahead despite a state law that appears to say she can't run in the general election.

She drew 42.1 percent of the primary vote in the 12th Congressional District, which takes in most of Savannah, and 68.6 percent in Chatham County.

"It's an opportunity to give voters a choice," Thomas said. "Many people are saying they won't vote on Nov. 2 because they don't think they have a real choice. Some say they're going to write me in anyway."
