Giving Obama credit where credit is due
http://www.watertowndailytimes.com/article/20100819/NEWS03/308199950/-1/news

The U.S. Department of Justice is trying to thwart Indian River Central School District's attempts to have an anti-gay-bias lawsuit against the district dismissed in federal court.

The Justice Department has filed motion in U.S. District Court to participate in the case as an "amicus curiae," or friend of the court, essentially volunteering to help the court decide whether federal discrimination claims by former student Charles P. Pratt should be upheld.

Mr. Pratt, who filed suit in April 2009, alleged he was harassed, called names, physically assaulted and threatened before he dropped out of Indian River High School when he was 15 years old. His sister, Ashley E. Petranchuk, is also a plaintiff in the case.

Mr. Pratt claims that district officials were aware of the problems but deliberately refused to help him. He also said any attempts by him to form a Gay-Straight Alliance at the high school were shot down by administrators.

I have to give credit to the Administration for joining this case and their steadfast support of Ken Jennings at the Dept of Ed. But I will say this, if you have argued, even one time, that Obama deserves no blame for the positions of the Dept of Justice on the DOMA cases then he would similarly deserve no credit for this filing. I happen to think he deserves the credit here, which is why I am posting this. It is an issue near and dear to my heart as many of you know. I do hope Charles P Pratt is OK.

1. I got a better idea
Send Arne Duncan in to fire all the administrators at the school.

2. that would be nice
I wish I had, had the courage to file suit over what I endured in school. I was too much of a coward though. I hope that kid wins enough to pay for college and grad school.

4. This is the kind of shit that's wrong with this place.
Even when the admin does something right, all some people want to do is piss all over it.

5. I really don't see that as pissing all over it
I do think it would be great if the feds graded schools on this criterion as well as test scores.
