Why is business allowed to hold a gun to our heads.
It is clear that the business world does not like Obama. Many companies are making money hand over fist but are refusing to hire people. I remember this also went on with Jimmy Carter. They do not want to cooperate with a progressive agenda. Of course Carter was hardly a progressive.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is scaring the bejesus out of small businesses.

I wonder how FDR got business to cooperate?

2. They do not want to cooperate with a progressive agenda
Why would a business want to cooperate with a progressive agenda? I sm more moderate than progressive, but why would a business embrace an agenda it views as hostile?

4. I wonder if the fallout from the "Business Coup" had anything to do with it.
Gen. Smedley Butler was a highly decorated former marine commander who led the Bonus Army to Washington to demand promised funds from Congress after WWI. In '34 a consortium of moguls approached him to again lead veterans to Washington and enforce a bloodless coup against FDR. Lucky for us, he preferred to support democracy, and after stringing them along enough to convince himself they were in earnest and had the capacity, he ratted them out to Congress. The committee hearings confirmed Butler's evidence, whereas the moguls' men could not similarly support their denials. The committee made no substantial recommendations, and Congress did nothing; the matter passed from public view.

Strange, huh? A few years ago I read a suggestion that pulls it together, though. The idea is: FDR negotiates with the implicated moguls, and offers them a choice. Prosecution as traitors (likely resulting in hanging) or cooperating with the New Deal. They chose cooperation. :-)

Frankly, I wish there were more hard evidence, but it's a logical description of what may have happened.

6. Neither do I. Business is out to break the power of government totally.
They want no taxes, no regulations, no over-site, no responsibility. They want to drawn the baby in the bathtub.

7. This whole theory is so ridiculous...
...and the fact that so many people here repeat this nonsense is just sad. It is one of those conspiracy theories that is so dumb I am almost embarrassed for the people who keep posting this nonsense.

First, business gives tons of money to Democrats. Business is not committed to an ideology, it is committed to making money. Business does not conspire to not hire people. Business exists to make money. If there is money to be made, business will hire. People make businesses to get rich, not to provide jobs - they only hire people so they can make more money. The very nature of businesses are to try to gobble up market share and beat other businesses in earning a buck. Any company stupid enough to not hire people when money can be made doing so will lose out to some competitor that will. Said competitor may not like Obama either, but if he/she can make money he/she will stab his fellow business conspirators in the back in a heartbeat.

10. We've been on a hiring run for a year now.
Some industries are doing better than others, and we're using the time to hire and train the heck out of people, so as it's been picking up, our competitors are finding themselves under-staffed and over capacity.

9. We have a Wall St. problem that is causing
business problems. The game has been corrupted. So everyone is watching out for their own back. Not hiring is part of that. It wouldn't be different with McCain as President, probably would be worse since Wall St. would likely be getting more corrupt under McCain.

FDR didn't scare the Upper Class because he came from the Upper Class. That is how he was able to get things done. Upper Class isn't scared of anyone anymore other than the Middle Class getting united. As you can see they have it split a zillion different ways right now with the help of the Corporate Media. They aren't scared.

The big Corp's aren't hiring because they aren't sure what is going to happen with the investment houses all corrupted.

Two biggest things that could help this are Wall St. reform and Health Care reform. Neither of which has happened to the extent needed to change business's mind. So in the interim welcome to The Big Dipper (as Robert Reich calls it).
