Calling President Obama a Muslim is another way of calling him
nigge%.
h/t to WSY.

That is exactly what they are doing.
How can he be a radical christian during the heat of the primary with the Rev. Wright fiasco and toward the end of the primary, during the general and currently become a Muslim?

Why is it that the majority of the people who believe this (they really don't)look the same? Have anyone seen any Muslims, even the radical ones, claiming the POTUS as one of their own? Hell even bin laden won't claim President Barack Hussein Obama. Imagine all the public relations leverage in this country he would gain if he did. People (white) would lose their damn minds.

The only thing a rational person can come up with is that ignorant people are covering up their racism toward a Black President under the cloak of xenophobia. Guess these REAL Americans would rather be referred as xenophobic than racist.

2. When I hear the denials I'm reminded of one lesson of the novel and film, Gentleman's Agreement
There should be no need to deny as denying it to save oneself from incrimination is to assert that there's something wrong with being Muslim.

This is such a sad chapter in our history, imo, but one that was inevitable.

Melting pot - yeah right. I guess we can bury that myth and play taps.

8. Obama is taking heat from republicans for two reasons
First and formost he is a Democrat
Second he is black.

Republicans go out of their way to manufacture lies and more lies about Democratic presidents. Look at how Reagan sand bagged Jimmy Carter. Do you think the press said or did anything about that. NO> The MSM started a campaign flaming and slurring him and saying he was a lousy president while covering for Reagan who undoubtedly was one of the worst we have ever had.

Then what did they do to Bill Clinton. One thing Clinton undid him self all he had to say was no comment about sex "with that woman" unless of lying and they could have done nothing.

Now they are going after Obama. They tried the "black" thing. The "radical" thing and now the "Muslim" thing. And this is sticking.

Republicans and there is absolutely none, who is not the scum of the earth. They have no morals. They have no compassion. No intelligence. The are the most radical bunch of individuals to walk the face of the earth. They think they are entitled to everything. I just wish they loose and loose big big big this November and we could fine the press for all their lies.

who is the President and that fact is what has pushed them over the edge.

The sad thing is when he is out of office, those MOFOers are going to be praising him like they did Nelson Mandela. I will never forget when Mr. Mandela came to DC and racist azz strum (gotta a Black baby) thurmond almost broke his old neck trying to get in a picture with him. He was up there skinning and grinning.tt.

13. Yep, Muslim = the 'socially acceptable' way to basically be racist towards Obama
Edited on Sun Aug-22-10 09:07 PM by ShadowLiberal
I've been saying for years that the whole Muslim rumor was really about racism, and the fact that it's a big social and media no no to say you hate and don't trust a politician because he's black. Hating Muslims and voicing it socially and in the media however has been 'in' and 'acceptable' ever since 9/11.

If Obama were Hispanic then those same racists would probably be accusing him of being an 'anchor baby' who doesn't deserve citizenship just because of his foreign father, because hating Hispanics for being 'illegal immigrants' and children of immigrants is also 'in' and 'acceptable' lately. The racists will do anything to try to discredit the presidency of someone from a minority group that they don't like.

Saying his Muslim is just another to slander him for those who wish they could call him the N-word to pollsters, but don't do it. They know he's not Muslim, but they continue to say it as way to denigrate him.

They do not call these people (and politicians) out of this crap.

When rethug politician go on tv and state the he/she take Obama at his word that he isn't a Muslim, that host need to call him/her out. The host just need to say, "Why are you saying these things when you and I know he isn't a Muslim," instead they say crap like, "Obama need to show the media that he goes to church more often."

22. Yes. But.. If his name weren't unusual, they would find something
else. With Kerry it was his eastern elitism and military cowardice. They don't care what it is...any noxious label will do. They will fabricate it just as they fabricated an unfortunate connotation for liberal. They will actually attack what gives the person strength and uniqueness, right? They go for the strength. They will find a way to piss on anything good..bring down the positive; make an idiot out of the intelligent; make a coward out of the brave; make a tyrant out of the constitutional professor...turn a positive into a negative. that's what they do. Muslim happened to be convenient and easy for them. It's not logical and it's not true, but it can be sold and that's all that matters.

But more than that, it's the kind of question and issue that's toxic to deal with. it's similar to the question about beating your wife...no good way to deal with it outside of ridiculing the questioner. Defending yourself just gets a headline and indirectly casts aspersions on that which you are defending against.

So this angle that the gop and pundits are taking is deviously effective...and very low. The gop has no problem with low and someone ought to start pointing this out and talking about how disgraceful this is. Al Franken has started...need to keep the ball rolling.

I drove through the central valley this last week and listened to some RW radio (about 90% of all talk radio you know)...you can't believe the crap they accuse Obama of...the plotting, the conspiracy with godless muslims, the fact that islam isn't a religion, obama's unprecedented vacations, michelle's elitism. It's unbelievable, literally, but it out there 24/7.

Ending an argument by calling the other person racist is certainly politically convenient, but doesn't necessarily get us anywhere.

32. I disagree. I think that those who call Obama a Muslim are calling him a liar.
Most people know that he claims to be a Christian. Personally, I have no idea what's in his heart of hearts, and I could care less. He could be a Pastafarian for all I care. I am more interested in what he does than I am in what he believes.

But to call someone a Muslim when they claim to be Christian? Effectively, that's calling them a liar.

34. Well, They Better Learn Real Quick To See Non-Whites In Positions of Power
The "Mad Men" world of White males holding all of the power positions and automatically disqualifying anyone who wasn't is long gone and dead, no matter who is president and that includes Sarah Palin.

We live in a globalized world, and if they cannot handle an African American being president, then they are not going to be able to function, let alone prosper.

36. A white Dem wouldn't have to prove he wasn't a _____ (fill in with

"not one of us"). First it was 60's anti-war Terrorist, then Black Radical, then Muslim, Socialist, Marxist, Fascist, and "Hitler." Oh, and "not an American Citizen." Seven or eight "He's not one of us" names, none of which, strictly speaking, was "racial." But none of it would have been raised, to this degree, with this frequency, with a white politician.

Fear of "the Other" drives all of the conservative base that isn't just trying to protect its wealth from workers. Works a lot better as a theme than "Save the rich at the expense of everyone else" I guess.

39. What I really want to say when
people call Obama a Muslim is:

"So what? There is NOT religious test to be President or a member of congress or even a citizen of this country!"

Accuse him of not being a natural born citizen ... OK, colossally stupid but at least a legitimate constitutional requirement. Accuse him of belonging to a religion ... Oh, just shut up already.

I also agree that it is BOTH calling him a liar and calling him the N word.
