The republicans seem to be running to the elections on only 3 things:
1. They claim that the President is a Muslim
2. They claim he is not a U.S. Citizen
3. The claim he is "for the terrorists" because he speaks out for the right to practice religion, re: the Islamic Center in NY

The media (especially TV) is pushing these points for the republicans.

Logic is irrelevant to people who wear teabags on their heads.

2. The 2012 election is going to be unbelievable, even by 2010 standards.
We simply cannot let them succeed with this platform.

4. The media pushes the "is he a Muslim?" line; then they poll; then they repeat, and
poll again; before long people are believing it. After several iterations, it will be declared as true by the media. The birther thing is next. Watch it go 24 x 7 for a few weeks.

I'm not sure if it'll work, but at least they're trying.

7. The media are not in the business of selling real information or real news
They're selling advertising time.

10. something you need to consider
It was actually polled and THEN pushed in the media.

So two (at least) separate agencies went out and created a poll question "is he a Muslim? then started the news coverage. Very coincidental don't you think?

6. The California GOP Convention was held in my city over the weekend
Conspicuously absent from their agenda and discussions were all three of those non-issues.

Go to Google News and check out whatever source floats your boat. You'll find all kinds of dirt about Carly Fiorina and Meg Whitman, and their pointed refusal to appear on stage together. You'll find the usual anti-taxation messages, a few multi-faceted discussions and attempted nuanced positions on immigration and same-sex marriage, but not a peep about Barack Obama.

Fighting the GOP insurgency in California will have nothing whatsoever to do with what anyone says about the President. If they have any success, the national GOP is likely to pay attention.

I am watching Fox quotes. I want to catch every lie and report it to the FCC.

9. I'm curious as to why you think the FCC would care about content on Fox News
Edited on Mon Aug-23-10 08:25 PM by slackmaster
As long as they aren't propagating a hoax* or putting out "indecent" material, I believe the FCC has no enforcement authority. The FCC's purpose is to enforce the Communications Act of 1934 and subsequent related federal legislation. They are not charged with enforcing any individual's assessment of what is and is not truth. By all means file a complaint, but I'll bet you'll get a reply that politely states that your concern is not within the scope of their authority.

Fox News itself doesn't even have an FCC license of any kind. Any complaint to the FCC would have to concern an alleged violation by a specific affiliate that was broadcast on TV or radio.

(* An allegation of hoaxing would be very difficult to prove unless you had someone saying as an official spokesperson for an FCC-licensed affiliate of Fox that Obama is a Muslim.)

11. thats now but not for long
If the economy doesnt recover

and millions still out of work

That's all they will need.

I suspect if this condition continues, voters will become desperate.

Anyone offering an alternative will be voted for.

12. I *WISH* this were true.
It would just be a replay of 2008 and they would lose... it would be the same mistake democrats made in 2004, trying to rehash the whole "bush is a draft dodger thing", which he was, but the sector of the public who MIGHT be impacted by this fact was beyond it.

Those who MATTER (people who may consider voting democratic) know that Obama is NOT a Muslim, IS a US citizen and is NOT for the terrorists.

20. They're running mainly on three things: Jobs, jobs, and then jobs.
THEN to appeal to the wackos, they throw in the other stuff.

BTW, the GOP has made a policy statement of some sort, I heard on the news today. They issued the statement that President Obama is not a Muslim, but is a practicing Christian.
