John Boehner: Fire Timothy Geithner and Larry Summers
CLEVELAND — House Minority Leader John Boehner is calling on the Obama administration to extend Bush -era tax cuts, freeze federal spending and fire top economic officials, including Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.

In a wide-range Cleveland speech Tuesday morning at the gothic downtown City Club, Boehner (R-Ohio) planned to outline several other major measures that he thinks would work toward righting the economy: he also wants President Barack Obama to veto bills that he believes would hike taxes and eliminate a controversial portion of the health-care overhaul law.

The 8 a.m. speech here is being billed by some as the beginning of a major rollout of the Republican party’s economic agenda — and also a preview of how Boehner would run the House if he becomes Speaker.

In Boehner's prepared remarks, Geithner and adviser Larry Summers are singled out as having promulgated “19 months of government-as-community organizer.”

“It hasn’t worked,” Boehner will say. “Our fresh start needs to begin now”

Democrats were clearly ready for Boehner's speech Tuesday — so much so that White House and congressional officials held conference calls in advance of the remarks on Monday to blast Boehner and warn that he wanted to return to Bush-era economic policies.

1. I agree with Boehner about firing them
but not for the same reasons. They are community organizers. The are part of the financial community organizers.

2. Yeah, I suspect there is some "triangulation" of his own here
He's basically taking a page out of Obama's left, and trying to co-opt it for the GOP. Fundamental triangulation strategy. Move On probably ought to take him up on the idea, and propose some nice, lefty, replacements.

3. He knows that you do. That's why he's saying that.
His goal is to pit Dems against Dems...and to undermine any Dem appointee. You're helping him along...when it would seem those guys helped to stall a lot of economic devastation.

9. Helped stall a lot of economic depression?
They are part of the group that caused it. Geithner at the the New York Fed and Summers as part of Clinton's outsourcing team. Summers said that we should move more jobs to less poluted third world nations because the people there will die from natural causes before they die from all the polution we dump on them. Summers got his hands on Harvard's operating funds and lost them all in the stock market.

12. And then there are Summers's issues with women.
Brooksley Born, female scientists and mathematicians and Elizabeth Warren.

I's love to see both G & S get the hook, but I don't think that my ideas about who should replace them would be the same as The Tan Dude's ones.

5. Divide and conquer. Very smart strategy on his part.
It will work too. No doubt the FDL crowd will soon eagerly join him and demand it.

13. More like a broken clock is right twice a day.
Fire Geithner and Summers. That's twice.

And if he gets Rahm Emmanuel too, that will be like a blind squirrel finding a nut.

14. Firing them would be stupid. Because then
there would be nobody in those positions because the Republicans would filibuster their replacements.

17. Not if they are recess appointments
or the nuclear option is invoked and force the Rethugs to sit in the corner for the rest of their pathetic careers.

7. Clever--Everyone agrees Timmy and Summers need to be Fired but then he slips in what he REALLY wants
which is extending the disastrous Bush tax cuts for the rich. He obviously doesnt give a damn about Geitner and Summer..if anything he enjoys the terrible job they are doing but Boehner knows this will be sugar to help the medicine go down with the public. Its a good strategy even if he only wants the rich to benefit and everyone else can go to hell

11. “19 months of government-as-community organizer”
As opposed to 96 months of "government-as-corporate-feeding trough"

Piss off, loser.

16. Gasp. Boner said something I actually agree with.
Yeah, fire both Summers and Geither and replace them with someone who knows how to deal with the budget better and fully prosecute the Bush cabal before ordering them off the shores of the United States to the Hague where they must face a war tribunal.
