Are politicians any more fake than when they talk about education?

I just saw that story about Karzai crying in his speech to the schoolkids.

Obviously, everyone knows that politicians are at times full of shit. It's nothing to dwell on, it's unavoidable, so much has already been said.

But there's something about education that really brings it out. Our worst president in history was "the education president". That was his thing in Texas. Running for governor, he was ignorant of everything. Karen Hughes gave him a talking point to use to answer any question he got on any subject. Just remember this one thing and always steer the answer to that one thing. Guess what it was: education.

Did his reforms do any good? Who knows, does anyone really look and see whether any of these reforms work? Arne Duncan's in Chicago? It seems they don't, they just give all these assholes credit for being "bold", for "shaking things up".
