A new Newsweek poll finds voters said "they trust Democrats more than Republicans to handle pretty much every problem currently facing the country: Afghanistan (by 6 points), health care (by 12), immigration (by 2, though that figure is within the margin of error), Social Security (by 14), unemployment (by 12), financial reform (by 14), energy (by 19), and education (by 19). Voters even prefer Democrats to Republicans on federal spending (by 4 points), taxes (by 5), and the economy (by 10)--the GOP's core concerns. The only area where Republicans outpoll Democrats is the issue of terrorism, where they lead by a 6-point margin."

1. I think the "apathetic Democrats" story is manufactured

by the media. I don't even know why the Republicans outpoll the Democrats on terrorism. Whose watch did 9/11 happen under again?? Oh yeah, but we were safe all those other years :sarcasm:.

If the bias isn't built into the questions, it's institutional.

The good news is these tactics have energized (D) voters - fear works. In this case, against the fearmongers.

We all need to get out and vote in November - 'cept me, I live in DC, so there's no point.

3. I basically know that, but how do you explain Nate Silver and

Charlie Cook? They're supposed to be smart guys who know their stuff, and they've both been railing about doom and gloom for the Dems.

5. In some cases, I'm disturbed about what I am reading. Feingold,

for instance. And that whackjob in CT (McMahon) closing in on Blumenthal. Then there's the nut in NY--Paladino?

And you're not the lone ranger-I live in GA, and there aren't many authentic Dems down here who have a prayer. But I hear you about living in DC. Conversely, you get to go to all the good rallies!

6. The (my)basic answer is that we have to win every election by 15%...

to overcome electronic voting and the (R) exit polls that give them credibility.

Yeah, I have a place in DC, but I'm averse to fascists. Didn't go out today, but we will be out on 10/30.

am trying to remain optimistic that Dems can still pull this off; they'll lose some seats, but I'm hopeful we'll retain both houses.

We have a few weeks to hammer home the differences, and the news seems to be getting better for many.

8. The Newsweek poll results are good but it doesn't take into account Dem voter complacency.

In fact, it may underscore it. That's why President Obama has been trying to light a fire under Democratic voters since Labor Day.

One side is mostly very satisfied; one side is mostly very dissatisfied. Guess which side normally wins out during midterms?

Why do you think there's such a Failer effort to DVT here?

Nate Silver, Charlie Cook and Larry Sabato believes that voter turnout will make the difference. D'oh!!

9. I have a strong feeling that the democratics are going to come through. It will shock the media.

Remember we are getting crap from Fox News and right leaning talk radio. They scream the loudest. I won't be surprised if the democratics retain both houses. It will shock the republicans.
