Blumenthal Leads by Double-Digits
With their first debate scheduled for tonight, a new Public Policy Polling survey in Connecticut shows Richard Blumenthal (D) leading Linda McMahon (R) in the U.S. Senate race by 12 points, 53% to 41%.

Blumenthal's favorability rating is 53/39, while McMahon's is the opposite, 39/59.

The only Republican Senate candidates with worse favorability numbers than McMahon were Joe Miller, Sharron Angle, and Christine O'Donnell.

It is always pleasing to see numbers like that, and this may explain why McMahon decided to start a nth campaign about Blumenthal and VietNam (which does not seem very different fromthe previous ones).

Also, good ad by Blumenthal leveraging McMahon's comments on minimum wage.

1. Man, CT Polling Is All Over The Map
I hope this poll is truly indicative.

I agree, her going so negative is good sign that she does believe she's far behind.

4. All over the map, but one constant: Blumenthal leads in all of 'em.

16. AND the lead is no longer shrinking.

Just stopping the bleeding is enough for celebration.

Every time I've said it I've gone on to regret it... but it looks like this isn't a race we need to be concerned about.

She's started to run some attack ads. It's good to see that they aren't getting traction.

12. I think Blumenthal finally getting some air time has helped
His ad stating that McMahon taking $46 million in bonus money while laying off 10% of her workforce was a real bodyslam here in CT... she could have kept those people employed for years with that $46 million.

2. Glad to hear.
Although I think it's fair to point out that I'm astonished he got past that, um, misremembering his military service. Wow times have changed. His opponent is a wrestling maven and oh those ads just write themselves. I think he's going to win.

5. I'm not, He is well known in CT and the few quotes they found were banal.

McMahon is really disliked in the state (this is a constant in every single poll, whether he was leading by 4 or 12).

7. I'm always relieved when people come to their senses and vote D.
There's a lot do and it's never too early to plan taking out the intraparty obstructionists. It is really the best approach and I don't think it's a purity test. What it is is flexing our muscles with our vote. What's more democratic than that?

9. If we win West Virginia
isn't it considered a "hold"? That was Byrd's seat, right?

11. Yes, it was an unfortunate wording, please forgive me, I do mean 'hold' but I hope we win it
is what I really meant.

13. No need to apologize
I am not familiar with every race - I thought maybe there could have been 2 seats up in West Virginia.

after months of nasty campaigning it is a good sign.

15. Interviewed today
Was asked to do a 'average person on the street' interview today in Hartford. A lot of good questions regarding Linda McMahon (sp?) and her stance on lowering minimum wage, her not knowing what the minimum wage was, what I thought obout her family values stance, etc. Not sure if I will be in a commercial but based on the smirks on their faces when I gave my answers and based on the number of ad-libbed questions coming from the camera man and the interviewer- I would not be surprised

18. Guys, I trust PPP more then Quinnipiac at this point. I think Blumenthal will win.
Edited on Mon Oct-04-10 06:51 PM by Jennicut
Quinnipiac seems to have more of a RW bias this year, their model seems a bit off.

I think it will be close but as a CT resident, people are talking about the minimum wage thing. CT has areas of great wealth but also some really blue collar towns. We were talking about this in my early childhood class tonight at college, about the disparity in incomes here in Connecticut and how it effects education. I think we may have the biggest gap in the whole county. The wealthy Gold Coasters sometimes vote Dem but we also need those blue collar towns and a lot of those workers are not responding well to her idiotic comments and her ultra spending on this campaign.
